Rotors do crack

My posts have always been met with skepticism when I said not to get drilled rotors if you do serious braking, because they'll crack.
Well I managed to crack even my solid rotors. Granted, these have seen many road track days in their ~2-year life span

I listened to you. When I got the ZZP 14.5" rotor, I selected the solid rotors.

What brand rotor was that? 480 HP is a lot for the SS/TC brakes to stop. Do you have any brake ducting?

Seen cracked rotors on actual road race cars, not that rare.

I tried to find out today when I replaced it but I couldn't tell. For 4 years now, I've been alternating between my stock rotors and a set of "premium" rotors from R1Concepts but since I've burned the powdercoat off the latter, I cannot tell any difference anymore

Here's a better picture of it though. My other set diesn';t have the numerous "micro-cracks" so I really wish I knew which was which...

Looks like they were in pretty rough shape before that big crack appeared.

Can you place the two different sets next to each other for a picture?

Yes they were. But they still performed fine at a track day about a month ago.

I only swapped out one yesterday since I have a brand new OEM set on order. I'll take a pic of the two off the car, which I believe is one of each. I'm just not 100% positive...

A lot of sticky weights on that rim bro. Good god. Solid rotors are not better than drilled ones for stopping on the track. That's ridiculous. Buy some expensive drilled or slotted rotors and some better pads and you won't crack them. For metal to come apart like that from heat, tells me your rotors are cheap and don't dissipate heat at all.. all the high end sports cars I've ever seen have drilled rotors. I'm sure they have it right.

I hear that argument a lot. About high end sports cars having drilled rotors. Of course they have it right. However they are in a totally different league than anything available for the Cobalt.
Show me the link to a quality 5x110 drilled rotor that'll fit a TC. All of the aftermarket drilled rotors I've seen start out with a cheap solid rotor. Only upgrade I know of is Powell's floating rotors which I'll get next year.

If you're serious, that's cool lol. I didn't know that was an option. Side note, can't you get cheap ish drilled rotors cryo treated? They will be loud but will last.

Cryo treating doesn't make them loud, it just makes them more durable. It works well for withstanding abuse.

Please link me to a drilled rotor that is actually of a quality able to withstand road racing, available for a Cobalt.

Because they don't exist...

Are they all that black color, I'm inclined to believe it isn't the OEM one because of that.

Good point! See, the thing is, that I plastidipped a set once (on the car) the night before going to a car show. I'll see if the black paint comes off on one or the other.
