Question Steering Boost....Adjustable?

Been very happy with the way my wee beasty handles except for one thing.....the steering is boosted waaaay too much for my taste.

Don't mind a bit of assist at parking lot speeds but there is no feel whatsover at anything approaching highway speeds....just numbness. I like the steering wheel to let my hands know what the front tires are up to.

As the title states....Is there any way to adjust the level of steering assist / boost?

Maven?

Steering and brakes have to mechanically linked. I believe gov't regulates that. Increasing caster would improve steering feel.

Seriously? Someone needs to make an upper caster plate then.

Less steering assist =/= more steering feel, it just means the steering is heavier to turn; Unless thats what you meant by "feel". There are things you can do to improve actual steering feel (as a side effect), by swapping stuff out, but there is only so much you can do without turning it into a full blown race car simply for the sake of more communicative steering. Improving suspension and settings, tires, unsprung weight all contributes to improving steering feel.

It is after all a Cobalt, it has its limits in terms of how far you can go before turning it into something else.

thats 100% right. In 2006 the Grand Am Cobalts ran an eps controller with three assist choices..
you have to change some uj's in the intermediate shaft and run an HHR steering column it will suit youbetter but its a lot of time effort and money to do this. Try putting wider tires on it.

You could if you REALLY were serious about assist levels swap out to the SS/TCs PSCM, but thats gonna get real spendy real quick. If youre running 205s still get some 225s.

Yeah, that sounds like a bit more than I want to get into.....not even sure I want to know the price

Yes rocketpunch, less boost is what I am looking for...it just seems to be filtering everything out, you know? Never thought about the caster, that would certainly make a difference. Wider tires are going to wait until I burn the P6's off, along with some sort of spring / shock package....or a coilover setup if I can squeeze a few extra bucks somewhere.

Gonna wade through the Stance thread now maybe upgrade my wish list.

Thanks for the input all, been wrenching on my own cars for 30 years but these computerized front drive cars are a bit new to me.
