Those that broke a bolt when installing a DC Strut Bar...ASAP

Well, it happend to me the other day when i got to the last bolt after torqing all of them to 18 ft pounds the last bolt snapped. For the last 3 days I have been calling around to dealerships to see how to ge this fixed. It's been no help since all the dealer wants to tell me to do is replace the whole strut assembly for hundreds of dollars. Or else they tell me to go find a custom shop to fix it which doesnt help me either. When i look under it from the bottom all it is , is a circular blue plate right under the bolt that broke but nothing hanging out from it which leaves me to belive that the bolt just sits on that plate and comes out the top only. It looks as though i could just replace the plate with the bolt but the dealer wont sell it as just that part. So my question is what have some of you guys down to fix this probelm, my car has been out od commision for 3 days now and i cant wait much longer, thanks.

just do what I did.... get a tap and tap the strut bolt out and pop in a long bolt with a washer and screw nut and tighten it down. It won't hurt missing one strut bolt since we have like three anyways on each side. The bolt isn't actually tied to anything on the side I broke it on. It was the same setup I installed again.

If your that concerned just take it to a good mom and pop shop and have them get a replacement bolt put on. You can by the bolts at any GM parts shop and have someone else put it on without getting a whole new assembly.

wow so this is pretty simple then? and a gm parts counter is just when you go to the dealer and tell them waht part you need right? just dont ask a service person. would you happen to have the part number for the bolt or no?

things you need:
drill
locking pliers
tap (may not need if you an work the old bolt out)
bolt and nut
screwdriver

ok so youo broke your bolt
step 1 get the bolt out
i would try prying and maybe using a hammer and punch or the vise grips to get the bolt out
if not then your gonna have to drill

use a drill bit smaller than the tap( or bolt as you may not need to tap this puppy)

once broken peice is out
get the new bolt w/ washer thru the strut tower/DC strut bar and put the nut on it

you may need to let the bolt thread itself while tightening

all the help i can offer over the web
i wish i had pics
