Uhh im not sure it might be, my step dad is gonna go down there and see if i can get a hookup. The guy i dealt with ive never seen before and we have 6 cars in my family and always go there so there might still be hope.

What intake do you have? I had issues with mine before where it was pushing out the fender lining just enough to rub. Just a thought.

Holy@#$%!!! One of mine did the exact same thing 225/40/18 NeoGens!!!! Only happened on a section of the inner tire....wtf? What causes this issue?

i dont think thats rub, it might be cupping or scalloping. happened to my front tires , due to bad alignment toe was all out of wack.
on the rear it could be bad struts , out of balance tires of poor aliment which would mean something is bent since there is no adjustment on the rear. sometime its could just be the tire .

kinda funny because mine was a nitto but its not just nittos that do it another tire that did it to me was a maxxis tire. i dont think its the tires i think its a combo of the size 225-40-18 and the car. slipped belts are more prone on low profile tires.. but yes like you said it is weird that this happened to both of your rear tires. either way nitto should stand behind their product. i doubt they will throw you free tires unless they are less than a year old, they may prorate them by how much tread is left

I have the Hankook R-S2's I think it is. I like the grip so far and were cheap. About 85 a tire. My bud got em for me though

I agree about the R-S2s, I picked up a set from Tire Rack (245/45 x 17) for about $75 each on close-out and I use them in SCCA STX (winter time). They're last year's model so they aren't be made any more and they aren't nearly as good as the newer R-S3s, but they're good enouth, particularly for the street. (The 17 x 7.5" rims I used were from a Saturn Redline I used to own -- the 17s work well on my 09 SS -- clears the calipers by about 1/8th inch.)

If you really want super tires, check out the Hankook R-S3s -- the current model -- in Oct of 09, SCCA reported their testing a bunch of max-performance 'street tires' for ST classes of autocross. The Hankook R-S3s were the 3rd best of all the tires they tested.

Their results were as follows: the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec was the fastest on their course @46.1 seconds; the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 was second @46.2; the Hankook Ventus R-S3 was third @46.4; fourth was the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 @46.8; next was the Nitto NT05 @47.0; then the Kumho Ecsta XS @47.4; and last was the Toyo Porxes R1R @48.0.

They said the Hankook R-S3s were among the best 'feeling' of all of the tires, better than tires ahead of it.

You're welcome. I prefer to answer with facts, if I have them, not guesses -- SCCA does a good job of testing things, I just happened to notice this test because I was tire hunting at the time.

I was actually trying to find a good deal on R-S3s, but I couldn't find them any cheaper than about $190/tire. I found the R-S2s and asked questions about them through the SCCA racing community. I found that a lot of WRX/STI owners use them -- they said that the S2s like a lot of negative camber, that they handled heat well, that they're a bit hard for really serious autocross, but that they made great track-day tires.

I'm about to install a roll bar (maybe a cage) and get on the road racing course at Pikes Peak Raceway (10 degree banked 1 mile oval and an inner -- flat -- road course that adds another 0.3 miles). They're having an all-day driving event on New Years day (weather allowing) for $150 for the day -- so I want a set of tires I can run without destroying them. My A6 Hoosiers would be gone in 30 or 40 laps -- a set of the 285/30 x 18 Hoosiers that I run sets me back about $1300 -- Wa-a-a-y too expensive.

so you werent rubing it was shitty tire defect? thats weird that you had them rubbing in the rear like that, i wasn't aware the camber could be controled in the rear of the car of the cobalt hinse the swing arm only can be shimmed? or did i read something wrong perhaps. lol, unless they were in your front i still dont see why that would rub, im running 235/45/18 on a 2.75" drop frt/rear and my tires are tucked in the front and i have no rubbing issue what so ever im i also have koni shock/struts. weird?

the rear wasnt rubbing on anything the tires were just **** and the tread was seperating.
