Traction Bars

anyone who frequents rlforums knows that they have traction bars out for their cars. also, i read some cobalt owners being skeptical that they would work for our cars.

well... they do. this past saturday i was the test car for a set of these traction bars and they work great. they prevent deflection of the control arms which effectively prevents wheel hop as well as giving you a larger contact pathc when launching hard. the best benefits from this will come when running DR's or slicks but they work just as well on the street with street tires too.

here's a vid of me launching at 3k with no wheel hop.

Do you have any pictures of where it installs into your control arm?

You have to drill a 5/8 hole in your control arm. I have been talking with the company back and forth all day getting more info about them.

I knew you had to drill a hole in the control arm, I just want to see how it mounts, as in where exactly. Also, did you use an existing hole in the subframe or drill one there too?

I got a $150 dual upper torque brace from GoofyGuy a long time ago and it stopped the wheelhop completely even with all the power mods I have now. I'm thinking the traction bars are going to help wheelhop, but limit wheel travel on hard high speed corners. I think I would only put them on a rear wheel drive car that REALLY needs it. It's a good idea and all, but from what I have seen in my upper torque mount brace, it works FLAWLESSLY. Just my two cents. It could save you a little money too.

yes but your upper torque brace is doing absolutely nothing to stop control arm deflection when launching. with the traction bars my control arms do not deflect so i get a flat WIDE contact patch.

also, they do not hinder movement of the wheels at all. i can still turn my wheel lock to lock with absolutely no more effort then when they were not on the car. the design is simple but i can not fully explain it. go to rlforums or .com and pm wasntme he is the person who designed and built these traction bars. he also makes traction bars for the redlines and the srt-4's as well as other items for the srt-4's. he is currently working on some goodies for the redline and cobalt including a supercooler for the heat exchanger that can utilize dry ice and has a heat exchanger built into the reservoir.

the tq braces and poly control arm bushings may stop wheel hop, but they do absolutely nothing to stop control arm deflection.

After seeing these things yesterday I went home and decided to see how bad the wheel hop is on my car. It was noticable on my 2003 Cavalier. I launched hard at 3000-3500 rpm and got no wheel hop at all. I don't know what everybody is complaining about. If you release the clutch right you can make it stick or make it spin, your choice.

try launching a little lower 2000-2500 rpms. or... just go to the track, i got wheel hop very badly when i went to the track. and rob who has these on his redline broke an axle from wheel hop. try going to the track and launchingat 3,000 rpm. or if you have a patch of smooth concrete like we had to test try that.

sent you a pm.

anyone who is interested in these post here or contact me via pm. if we can't get 10 people interested in these then BWoody / Glacial Graphics is not going to produce these for the cobalt.

Interesing. I'd like to see results before I could make a decision. Right now, at the track, I have zero wheelhop, just a ton of wheel spin.
