I was just saying it's possible... I wish we had a **** ton of aftermarket support like they do, but EVERYONE goes "what, cobalt? Ptsh that's a pos WTF are you doing racing that?!" further proven that point by the comments on this thread. And then they race it and find out. AND us cobalt owners are cheap and dont want to pay to play so theres no reason to make an aftermarket.

Which is why the SS beat the Evo around Virginia International Raceway??

Mitsubishi = Fail.

You would have to be on drugs to pay close to $40,000 for an upgraded Mitsubishi Lancer.

ok, how many turbo swapped LNF's do you see? not many.

as soon as the EFR turbo comes out with a direct bolt on application then youll see alot more cobalts in the 450-500 range prefectly fine to DD. so yeah it can be easy honestly.

our transmission has a weak point but so does your srt4... and so does alot of transmissions like the 6spd in the evo so people say go with the 5spd.

you can upgrade the driveshafts no problem as well.

ive read the lnf internals are good to 500hp before you need to replace pistons connecting rods and valvesprings. then youre good to go.

but what do we know we just drive cobalts

There is a diff between third gear poping out and the trans not being able to hold the power. IDK about the Cobalt...Though the Srt and Evo you mention have a ton of transmission options when it comes time to upgrade.

idk but my buddy has a srt4 and hes had a 3rd gear issue since day one and he replaced the linkage and everything.

but i guess our cars have no potential compared to those cars, 330whp and 380wtq is just so unobtainable... i had to buy ALL the bolt ons AND get a tune!

the cobalt is probably the BEST handling FRONT wheel drive vehicle you can get, especially the turbo balt with LSD. The evos are verry capable all wheel drive cars and the fact that their all wheel drive means u wont really have to worry about understeer and not much at all about oversteer.

hey man! know your place it goes evo>sti>srt4>pinto>cobalt! our cars have very little aftermarket support thus making our cars have no potential!

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Ive never had a bit of trouble out of the transmission in my SRT or SS/TC. SRT has 67K and SS has 13K. But Im anxious to see how the cobalt fairs whenever i do the S252/6 this Winter.......fingers crossed lol.

Sounds like your comparing factory F/I more than the actual cars.

lmao i DID forget geo

i wouldnt be worried about the turbo swap.

i have a cobalt and love it, some people dont have cobalts and comment on how they are sh*t

we were talking about factory for factory and somebody had to bring up cobalts having no potential compared to every other car... and i am defending the fact that they have alot of potential and can also become "monsters"

The cobalt really shine in a straight line but my little cobalt holds it own handling wise. No matter how much **** I catch from my SRT buddies about the solid rear axel.

The cobalts have unreal potential. Matt M made over 625 whp on all stock internals (besides S2 cams & valvesprings) before he blew it up. That motor went through the s252, EFR, and the s259 thats in development. countless hours on the dyno with a couple hundred 400+ pulls, about a hundred 500+ pulls, and a dozen 600+ pulls. IMHO thats pretty good reliability for stock bottom end considering how hard Matt beat on that car...not to mention those numbers are freakin awesome!!!

Unreal potential? That's great and all but not unheard of with other makes. All in the set-up and tune. What did it pull as a best through the 1/4? I haven't even checked?

You have a lot to learn

There's a big difference between making a lot of power on 1 or 2 pulls and making a lot of power every single day daily driving without breaking anything.

Keep in mind that ZZP's cars often break at the track because they're pushing the limits of the cars.

Okay, and your "simulated" 1/4 mile run is just AMAZING and matt was already doing that at an actual track. Honestly I don't know why you still post in here since our cobalts are so slow compared to your platform

Has nothing to do with my personal car. That was stock head with a super baby turbo. Though if you want to get into it my tuner ran 10.4 @ 140mph on stock internals if you care to compare real life numbers. All this because I said the 500-600whp being easy wasn't so easy by how few there are?

Theres a huge difference between "1 or 2 pulls" and going ***** out revving out to 8k RPMs a few hundred times on a dyno on top of all the trips to the track and the street driving.

And horsepower numbers in the 500ish range is great for a FWD car. I know that there are more powerful turbo 4s out there but it's not necessary nor is it practical to have a monster hp daily driven FWD car.

I never claimed to be some kind of genius but I do know my way around cars and I'm no stranger to performance tuning. The cobalt has a great starting platform to make respectable power numbers. If someone in the tuning community cant see the potential, they are for lack of better words IGNORANT!!!

Ease of installing as compared to other platforms but it's expensive and like I said cobalt owners are cheap and we don't have the benefit of a sh*t ton of vendors for the high performance end to compete with prices and make aftermarket kits more affordable. I'd love to do that but I have to take my time seeing as I have limited funds but it's possible.

If you want a cheap car to do autocross stuff get a Focus. Lots of aftermarket support for both the engine and suspension.

its like seriously?

its no 0-60/skid pad/lane change/100-0 brake test this is an actual comparison at what these cars were built to do... but its a pinto and nothing more haha

not saying the cobalt is all around better but its comparable to a **** ton of "out of league" performance cars.

some people just want to rag on cobalts... and post about it in a cobalt forum, but oh well to each their own.

we just wanted to say that the suspension is comparable to a evo and was faster at a racetrack than an evo, thus making it in the same league. but since we dont have as much aftermarket support then we dont have any potential in our platform and our cars are pintos and the racetrack doesnt prove anything.

oh and by the way we have a cobalt featured in modified magazine, super schweet.

Oddly enough no one has mentioned the fact that when developing the SS/TC, GM benchmarked the car against the Evo 8 and then beat it's time around the Nurburgring....

I love Evos (and STis) and will probably trade this car in for one at some point in the future but I have to say, this car/platform is NO JOKE.

When your friend drives an Elise and tells you he is impressed with your Cobalt, you know it's been a good day.
