uRGENT!! Using Saab wheels..

Hey guys,

So I'm trading my Enkeis for a set of Saab/BBS 17's this Saturday.. But I'm curious as to what I need to make them work.. Do I need to use tuner lugs, or can I use standard lugs, or do I need to do something else..? I want to be prepared.. Will he have to do anything special to use the Enkei's on his car..? It's a 2002-ish 9-3.. I would appreciate any info I can get..

Thanks..!

These are the wheels in question.. The ones in the link..

So eventhough the Saabs use an odd mounting set up, they still mount normally on our cars..?

As long as the conical shape of the Saab wheel studs is the same as our lugs your golden. Go to Advance Auto and compare a lug for your car to a bolt for that car. Easy peasy.

You shouldnt need any hub centering rings.

someone on that forum said you cant fit anything smaller than 17's on the SS.

which explains why i'm running 16's for my winter tires?

I'm assuming they're referring to the new SS's, but what do I know?

I would use different lugs just in case.

after a ridiculously little amount of research, i'm pretty confident you wont need tuner lugs. the saab wheels are GM OEM, and GM isnt going to make special lugs for each vehicle, unless they have to.

Why would you "use different lugs just in case"?

If stockers fit... then he doesn't need new ones. All you need to check are the seat type.

haha Yeah, I explained to them about the 16's..

So it's sounding like Im ok, but It will probably use either standard or tuner lugs, depending on the opening size? I was just worried because of how they bolt on weirdly like VW's do..

cause even if the lug look like it seats the same it may not. you may not notice it when you put it on. But you will notice it after driving and tighting it to the whell. you will see grooves in the rim.

I think that you will be okay. Do you know what offset they are? Reguardless what the offset is I think that they will fit without a problem.

Like i said.....GO TO A PARTS STORE, ask for a Saab wheel mounting bolt and compare it to a Cobalt lug, see if the seat is the same. /thread.

The saab bolts go into the hub like the BMW's, where ours have studs in the hubs and nuts go on those and sandwich the rim, so he can't compare because they are mounted in different ways. The wheel itself shouldn't be any different, as the back side of both the screw and nut are conical. The problem would be the opening in the wheel itself, the bolt doesn't need as large of an opening in the face of the wheel, so it would be a socket fit issue, potentially. In that case you would just get allen keyed lock nuts.

AGAIN.......why I said to go to a store and physically compare our lug nut to the Saab mounting bolt. I am aware they mount differently.

I don't disagree with that, just think it would helpful to know what the diameter of the mounting aparutus would be compared to the hole in the rim. On my old BMW I had torks bolts and a hex pattern, but no lug wrench fit in the face of the wheel, which I felt was retarded. And I belive it is a 2004 saab 9-3 linear.
