i need one for the balt but my dealership wants about 400 i gotta figure out what to be searching for, steering rack?

all4 cause some places list it as steering rack and pinion, others say steering gear but its the actual gear without the rack. Lets me know how much work is involved if i want to do it, or have the dealer.

its the steering gear.....thats what its called, its rack and pinion type.

2hrs plus align at dealer

all morning plus align at home

i figure ill put the part in, another member got me directions on how to do it, is it a bitch to get the outer tie rods out and back in with the puller?

with a puller or a sledge its easy once it pops it out, its just jammed in there pretty good.


there will be what looks to be a spot that is flat and beffy very near the tie rod end on the a-arm itself... tap that with the sledge as you use the puller and it will pop right off... thats what it is there for

Same part....steering gear, steering rack....all words for the part in the picture.

Its easy...its the only thing that controls your steering

100 bucks usd plus shipping for a good used low mileage steering rack complete comon..

that actually leads me to my next question as what fails in these? Is it common? or should i save 100 bucks and get a used one? and is there anything else i should replace while im down there pulln that **** apart? im at 55k
