HP Tuners Question
A friend of mine's dad has HP Tuners for his 04 GTO, and has the basic tuning software. What I want to know is how would I go about buying a credit(s) for my car to work with his stuff. Im new to HP Tuners, but I want to learn how to tune. All I know about HP Tuners is that it uses credits or something to let you use it on a vehicle.
I also want to know if it would be worth it to buy the pro software, and if I could just buy an upgrade, since I would already have the basic.
Thanks for the help, im a noob when it comes to tuning, but I what to learn.

when you purchase the unit you get 8 credits, if he hasnt used them all (it takes 2 per car normally) its possible you dont need to buy anything.. just give him the money to cover the credits you use...
otherwise you have to purchase credit from www.hptuners.com

MAYBE...remember...we only recently ~1 year ago, switched to a credit based system. Its possible he has the older serial interface which will NOT work with your cobalt. Find out if its the serial interface or the newer mpvi USB interface & I can explain what you need to do from there.

When you do your initial read it will show you the options of how to license it...if you choose the pcm lock it uses 2 credits & your locked to that pcm but can now tune it an unlimited amount of times.

My thinking is this...most dyno tunes run about $500 and you get it done once.
HPTuners is $499 or $649 and you get to tune up to 4 vehicles with no further cash outlay and can use it over and over and over.
A dynotune is a one and done...hptuners is not only tuning software its a mod...probably one of thee best you'll ever come across...not only is it one of the best scanners on the market its something that can give you hp with just clicking a button rather than turning a wrench...and unlike a pulley or injectors you have much less chance of growing out of hptuners...and it grows with YOU...not just your car...who knows a year or two from now you smack up your cobalt & maybe you have the money for a new Camaro or vette...hptuners will be there & ready to tune it and you wouldnt need to spend a dime.
Anyways thats my story...no really I lived it...and im sticking to it.

^ he knows his stuff. HPTuners while may cost you 500-650, you still after tuning your car can charge out to 3 other cars to earn some cash back, and you could potentially allow your car to run healthier and safer, saving you money from blown pistons or valves etc from running to rich or lean, and many other problems like Knock. Well worth the purchase.

I make atleast $400/month with my HPtuners. I made $630 with it so far this month :-) Gotta love it, it keeps you busy. Better to buy total year license for you type of car and go to town tuning others with the same car.

another question I have is if someone sends me a tune is there any way to change the serial # I tried and it won't let me.So I have been copying and pasting all the tables.
I was just wondering if there was an easier way.
Thanks,Chris.
