hp tuners wont connect to car

so I was trying to do a log, and for the past little while it would say it was scanning but no info would show, had to exit software and fool around for a while before it worked, now when I try to connect to car it says cant read vcm, make sure key is in on position bla bla. the box shows the busy light as blinking while its trying to connect but it doesn't connect. tried on a different car, nothing, installed software on different laptop, nothing. is my converter box busted or could it be the obd2 cable. im a little pissed, don't wanna spend another 500 on a new hp tuners dongle, its only a year old.

it could possibly even be the OBD2 port itself; a fuse of mine blew awhile back and i couldn't get an OBD2 reading untl it was replaced.

Crap, sorry, didn't catch the "tried iton a different car" part.

Contact Hptuners or check their trouble shooting out. No chance anyone by you has hptuners and can see if the car will log on theirs?

I've found that the order I plug my cables in affects whether it will read or not. I sometimes have to unplug either the usb with it still connected to the OBD, OR the OBD2 with it connected to the computer still, then reconnect before it will read.

Didn't realize you broke the cable portion, thought it just wasnt connecting. Def worth the 40min drive, I would still email them about options they maybe able to transfer the unlocked credits

No it wasn't connecting then after I looked and 2 pins were further out than the others, could be normal, but I attempted to push them back and broke em lol. Now my cable definitely don't work but I still need to check the dongle

Any idea how much they charge for repair? U can still use it to unlock cars if ur remote tuning someone. I'll probably just send it to a friend who does that if it's to expensive to fix.

Get ahold of hptuners. Unless it's failed from water damage they'll probably cover it. Also try what Area said

No, but I know they fix them if they are physically damaged. I am going to be sending them mine to replace the USB-B end on it; mine is really lose and loses connection sometimes.

I'm a little late to this one, but this **** is the damn bane of my existence.

I've been back and forth with Bill @ hpt for years with this issue, and it's always the same response. Nothing is wrong with the interface, it's your laptop. I get a new laptop and install everything by the book. STILL the same connectivity issue. This goes for all vehicles (makes/models) btw, not just balts. Here's what I found happens with mine and how I have to sort of "work around" the issue....

If the car has been keyed on or running prior to connecting with hpt, I must turn the car off, remove the key and literally let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Once the car has sat for a minimum of 20-30 minutes (yes specifically that amount of time), I then must plug in the obd2 side first, THEN plug in the usb cable to my laptop. Only then will my laptop acknowledge the interface is present. Then I can key on the ignition, connect and go to work. ******* frustrating as all hell!

Of course, there's nothing wrong with my interface or their firmware though! Right!?! Haha

The only issue I have is sometimes it doesn't think the interface exists. Unplugging USB and plugging back in almost always fixes it.

I've tried that many times along with literally pretty much every other combination of steps. Included but not limited to wind direction, position of the sun, moon and all other celestial bodies. lol
