hp tuners wont connect to car
so I was trying to do a log, and for the past little while it would say it was scanning but no info would show, had to exit software and fool around for a while before it worked, now when I try to connect to car it says cant read vcm, make sure key is in on position bla bla. the box shows the busy light as blinking while its trying to connect but it doesn't connect. tried on a different car, nothing, installed software on different laptop, nothing. is my converter box busted or could it be the obd2 cable. im a little pissed, don't wanna spend another 500 on a new hp tuners dongle, its only a year old.

it could possibly even be the OBD2 port itself; a fuse of mine blew awhile back and i couldn't get an OBD2 reading untl it was replaced.
Crap, sorry, didn't catch the "tried iton a different car" part.

I kinda broke my cable now so I need a new cable either way, just want to see if the dongle works. will save me a lot of money if it does seeing as with exchange it will cost me 700 for a new hp tuners here in canada

I'm a little late to this one, but this **** is the damn bane of my existence.
I've been back and forth with Bill @ hpt for years with this issue, and it's always the same response. Nothing is wrong with the interface, it's your laptop. I get a new laptop and install everything by the book. STILL the same connectivity issue. This goes for all vehicles (makes/models) btw, not just balts. Here's what I found happens with mine and how I have to sort of "work around" the issue....
If the car has been keyed on or running prior to connecting with hpt, I must turn the car off, remove the key and literally let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Once the car has sat for a minimum of 20-30 minutes (yes specifically that amount of time), I then must plug in the obd2 side first, THEN plug in the usb cable to my laptop. Only then will my laptop acknowledge the interface is present. Then I can key on the ignition, connect and go to work. ******* frustrating as all hell!
Of course, there's nothing wrong with my interface or their firmware though! Right!?! Haha

I've tried that many times along with literally pretty much every other combination of steps. Included but not limited to wind direction, position of the sun, moon and all other celestial bodies. lol
