If one were to acquire HP Tuners....and read the VCM with a Trifecta tune.....could one then save that as a base tune and tweak accordingly? Or does one have to upload a tune from the repository and start anew? I have a pretty dialed in Trifecta tune and there r some small tweaks I would like to make as well as nopt be dependent on anyone else in the future for further mods.

edit: for info.....the "stock" tune that was flashed over to begin with was a hp tuners setup......so i tuned over a hpt file with trifecta.

Nope, Trifecta writes the tune, lets you flash it, log & send results, & tweak, reload ect.

If you have an LNF, TF has a layer tune that can be HPTuned on top of.

Edit... I see you have an LSJ, not sure if Vince has a layer for that one.

I would flash your stock file back and then tune from scratch with HPTuners.

Nope, you can't read a TF tune with HPT and save it. If you have the file that was loaded into the car you can save that to load again with EZ flash.

when i had trifecta to begin with.... the car was already tuned with hpt. i got trifecta. all the old files (trifecta) are on a backup laptop. so i still have them.

i do not have any cables to speak of yet....hoping to pick up hp tuners within the week and this is the onl catch.

can i flash a stock tune to the pcm...full rewrite.....then tune or flash over that? using the hp cables? or am i forced to use the trifecta stuff and somehow obtain a cable and software to flash the "stock hpt" file back?

Once you Write Entire with HPT, the TF stuff is gone forever. You need a stock file for your car since you don't have one in the HPT format. You should be able to find one in the HPT repository in the 4 cyl section.
