2.0 vs Evo III

Was on Bell rd again, on my way home, when a silver evo VIII passes me. Never had a chance to race one, so I instigated. I dropped to 2nd when next to him and floored it, he realized I was trying to race, so he punched it too. We played like this for a while, when we cam to a stop light. I knew better than to race from a launch, so i let him take off like mad. After he calmed down, i caught back up to him. We were side by side at 40mph, we both drop it and go. I couldn't believe it!! My front bumper was at the middle of his door all through 2nd gear, and i started slowly creeping on him in 3rd. We shut down at about 75mph. The passenger gave me a smile and nod, and told me he couldn't believe I kept up with them. Said he wanted to try it again, so we do, this time at 45mph. Same result, but I crept a little further this time. Both races, he had the initial "oomph" when we hit the gas (AWD), but i quickly gained lost ground back. AT the next light, his friend told me that he's impressed with "those cars". We raced one more time, this time at only 15mph. i told him there's no way I'll hang this time. His friend said " I know." But to all of our suprises, after initial "oomph" of his take-off, I slowly caught up again! They were cool guys, and gave me props. i did the same, and went our seperate ways.
BTW, he was bone stock, to the air filter, and so am I. And yes, he shifted good and hard, with no missed shifts.

Yay cobalt

I raced an evo from 10mph with a 3" exhaust and intake and he killed me after 50. I also raced one with a reflash, turboback exhaust, and intake (he said he was putting down 290 to the wheels) and he smoked me even more. Do you guys think the GM stage 2 will keep up with the stock evo's from a dig possibly?

Oh and by the way I raced a dodge srt10 ram last night, well really this morning. It was NICE. All black. Very dark tints. 22's lol. Anyway we went from about 60 to 110. I'd have to say he was about 3-4 car lenghts in front of me. Then I saw a ferrari 360. I wanted to race him to say that I lost to a ferrari 360 but he kept driving at like 120. He never slowed down.

Stage 1 with 2.8" pulley + i/e/h + cams. I estimate that those modifications should put the cobalt very close to the 300hp mark.

Stage 2 is only a 2.9" pulley. I say you're better off with a slightly smaller 2.8".

I need it now because I can't stop losing lol. It seems that I always pick cars that are way faster than me to race. But it's either nice expensive fast cars or rice, and i'd rather waste my gas on nice expensive cars that are fast . I have only won one race, to a g35 sedan . I lost to two evos and that ram srt10.

You can see my mods now... my the end of Nov I should have my TOG header, Custom 3" dp and exhaust.... Ill be taking it to the dyno... Im hoping Ill put down 240ish (I think thats around 275-295 dynojet)... That is probably a little optimistic though...

Why would Stage 1 come with the 2.8" pulley and not Stage 2?

I believe hes referring to one of the articles floating around in which they say that the Stage 1 and Stage 2 PCM tunes will be identical.... The GM pulley for stage 2 is only going to be 2.9"... people with Psi Fi kits are already running 2.8"...
So I think hes saying that you could probably just stick with that size...

Any respect that the Evo driver might of had for your car was probably lost at that point.....

Not really. I know that not many cars like to race me from a dig because of traction issues. So I usually try to go from both a roll and dig to see who is really faster. But in reality, a real race is from a dig, not a roll. I raced an SS from a dig and a roll before. I really thought they were faster, but then again Im at 337awhp, and I dont know what he had.

An EVOs top end SUX!!! Thants why you slowly started to catch him. An SRT 4 does the exact same thing, except they can actually pass us when we are bone stock(at least an EVO 8, not a 9)

yea, they die pretty quick, but I know with just a few mods they become monsters, even on the highway. And yea, SRT's start walking me slowly once they hit the "magical" 3rd gear they have.

At least you aren't an ass picking on cars you know you can stomp. I won't race unless I know I have a chance at losing. Keep taking it to the big boys even if you lose.

If you read the story you would know that it was a typo in the subject.

I think he just forgot the "V" in front of the "III" in the title, he said in his post that it was an EVO 8

Nice races phxSS. The results sound about right, being that Evo's only put down about 240WHP and weigh a few hundred pounds more than an SS S/C. Their AWD systems are nothing but a disadvantage once they are moving, so it was smart of you to race him from a roll. Roll races definitely show which car is actually faster. Obviously AWD is going to put a few cars on anyone from a dig, but just because it can get off the line quickly does not automatically make it a faster car.

Was the 360 a yellow convertible? If so, that guy lives in Rutherford you might run into him again. Also, have you ever seen the guy in our area in the yellow 911 turbo? It must be his daily driver because I see him everywhere.

It was a red one. Yeah there is a yellow 360 coupe. That kid is 20-22 years old. His dad owns a jewlery store. End of story lol.

The yellow 911 turbo is my friends dads car. He owns a couple resturaunts around here. That thing is sweet. I was in it. His son, my friend, has a mini cooper s that I want to race so badly but he keeps giving me excuses. His dad is buying another exotic car either this year or next year. It's either that new ferrari that's coming out or the lambo gallardo. That guy is rich. I belive he's keeping the 911 turbo too when he purchases the new one.
