2.4 cobalt
2.4 cobalt
what other cars do you think this car can barely beat or hang with?
i think:
tc
corolla s type
base rsx
2.2 cobalt
any ford focus
any civic except the new 2006 si
any cavalier

i think you could definitely get a tc. those things are dogs. i whoop up on them here in guam all the time in my RA. i think you would be a good run with a spec-v and an RA also. but yes, you would definitely own the list of cars you put plus.....
corolla xrs
matrix xrs
mazda 3s
tibby gt
lancer es/ls/oz rally
eclipse gs/rs/gt
protege mp3/mp5
sunfire
celica gt
240sx
200sx se-r/se
300zx naturally aspirated
cars that would be a driver's race would be...
ralliart
spec-v
mazdaspeed protege
eclipse gs-t/gts
celica gts
rsx type-s
integra type-r
integra gsr
there is probably more, but all cars being stock, that's probably what your lists should look like.

i would say same list as long as your racing other autos. but if you are racing sticks, then the list i said would be a driver's race, would probably rip you pretty good, and the list that i said you would own, i'd say it'd be a driver's race with the following cars(you being auto them being stick):
corolla xrs
matrix xrs
mazda 3s
tibby gt
eclipse gs/rs
protege mp3/mp5
sunfire
celica gt
240sx
200sx se-r/se
and the list of cars added owning you now with you auto and them stick:
eclipse gt
300zx naturally aspirated
of course these are all my predictions and may not be exactly accurate. also, depends on how well someone can launch and drive their stick shift sport compact. a race with any of the cars being mentioned may be totally different than my prediction. it all depends on the driver!

thats a cool prediction i mean i coulndt beat a base cobalt auto in my auto celica gt-s so im hoping this n/a ss will bre a much better auto to work with especially after its been built up a little bit and turbo charged
I have a Mazda 3 GT 5sp , and after test driving the SS (2.4) extensively and having a race (buddy in my 3) I can confirm you will lose. The Tc (5sp) hangs at the drivers side door of my 3, in fact I have been edged by one before. They are quick little cars. I would say you may get edged there too. Matrix XRS will serve you up a loss for sure as well. My parents have one, and me and my brother have raced (me in my 3) Especially if you have an auto.
Now you have the 2.4 faked out to be an SC everyones who pulls you is going to think they are pulling an sc. No offence, that kind of irks me after reading similar stories in the Mazda 3 / Tc and other forums. If you cant afford the real deal, drive what you wanna drive. Back in the old days everyone used to hide thier muscle, now people are trying to show off muscle they dont have...
Oh BTW, the Spec - V = Loss. It will serve my mazda its ass at will. My beighbor has one.
The rest of the cars, if your a good driver, you should have no problems pulling. If anyone of em is a 5sp , you will most likely lose
I cant believe I waded into this discussion as it is Sooooo subjective but at least I can share some reality ...

Sorry a Scion TC is a heavy pig. 3000lbs and low performance Camry engine.
Mazda 3 is pretty good but I have driven one and my 2.4L SS is faster. Saw one run at the track and it was slower.
I alos raced a Sentra Spec V with exhaust and CAI---I kicked his butt, time after time.
Apparently not many of you has seen MikeSS times. 15.2@92mph. I have done 15.4
The 2.4L SS owns anything with similar hp and price. Head of the class baby!
And Sunfire? Please!

"The 2.4L SS owns anything with similar hp and price"..........
Whoa....
His auto SS is going to pull a modded Spec - V, a 5sp Mazda 3 GT , a Matrix Xrs 6sp?????
I am ducking out of this one....
Carry on people..
FYI - Before you boost the auto SS, beef up your torque converter, just a suggestion. Excuse me for asking, but if your going to be doing all those mods, why an Auto?

I never said an automatic 2.4L or "his automatic" But after re-reading his post---he did say "this car" (I assume he means his car) Sorry I missed that.
Obviously is you race an auto 2.4L VS any of those in manual--there is a good chance you will lose. But if its auto VS auto or manula VS manual the 2.4L SS should win.
But I'll race any in my 5 speed anytime, anywhere...well in Calgary at least. I'd like to racea Ralliart and Mazda 3--just to show them my tail lights
Just checked the specs on the Matrix XRS/Vibe GT:
Engine, 1.8L VVTL-i, 4-cylinder 164 HP @ 7600 rpm, 125 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm. Hmm....Maybe the auto 2.4L SS could win!.....thats pretty weak--small engine too. It might have a small weight advantage though.

reason 2 for auto: consistent in racing since i am mainly concerned with the 1/4 mile
also i do plan on adding an upgraded tq conv. and shift kit and pretty much anything to get the tranny bulletproof and shifting better and faster im hoping to get away with the whole job at about $3500...

Well if you know how to race an automatic than you should be good. Especially after you beef up the tranny. Like they say "you race what you bring and you better be good at it
" Well I kinda for got how it goes but, thats close enough. lol. Oh and celicacobalt, where thats if you found the tq. converter, shift kit, and other goodies at?
avro206, not trying to call you out or anything, but i wouldn't just up and say, "i'd like to show a mazda 3 and a ralliart my tail lights." it wouldn't be quite that easy. yes on the mazda 3. no on the ralliart. it also depends on the driver. i got a vid for you. me (bone stock, stock goodyear rs-A's, half a tank of 89octane, car seat in the back, less than 1500 miles on it) VS 2003 Sentra SE R spec-V (Nismo CAI, less than a quarter tank of 91 octane, not sure exactly what tires but they weren't stock)

yes that's right, i whooped him pretty good. so i hope you change your mind about the ralliart. i'm not hating, just trying to earn a little respect. i've yet to race a 2.4SS! when i get back to the states, i'll try to find one to race.

I can tell you right now , without further debate that the race against the 5sp 3 in your atx will not be a "show em my tail lights" scenario by any means
There is also no way the 2.4 will handle as good as the 3 either, but thats not putting down the SS. Both are amazing cars I must add, I really like the regular ss and the 5sp really packs a punch. I just want to make sure people know the full story. If you find someone who can launch thier 3 properly, your going to have your hands full. Not saying your going to loose every race, you may catch a bad driver here and there. But, if you race a 5sp 3 in your auto , you will most likely lose though.

Your misunderstanding.....I said I'd like to show my tailights. Thats different then, "I'll show 'em my tail lights!!
Now I think I would but maybe, just maybe I'd lose against the Ralliart. Should be damn close either way. Going by specs---the 2.4L SS should have some more top end power----mine peaks at 6200rpm and yours at 5750 (I think)
You don't have a dyno graph do you?
I really like them and test drove one before. The RA does not get the respect it deserves, I agree.
Lots of Lancer fans did not like the new look to them but I did.
Remember I beat a Spec V with exhaust and CAI too.
Too bad you don't live around here----we could go settle this like men
j/k!!!
