) 5-speed V6 is certainly capable of low 15's, stock, as well.
Who knows. Either way, I'd love to race one as it would certainly come down to the drivers in any case.

Y87 Camaro's add 3.42 gears and LSD and maybe something else, but the gears and LSD are the big thing.

They complained about the interior as usual, claiming it was substandard. They screwed up and said it had 18" wheels too. I liked that!
Looks like they should have got it going a bit faster, then again the sedan is probably heavier than the coupe. MikeSS got a hair over 15 seconds, so the car is certainly capable. Maybe the one in the test was not broken in, or it had already had the sh%t bagged out of it!
I'm really getting tired of waiting for my yet to be built SS/SC! The 2.4L seems like a viable alternative if my patience dwindles!

Yeah I read that too. The 0-60 seems right on but the 1/4 mile should be a little faster.
Still it performed very well (wtf was up with the Civic Si times? lol it was slower!) but got heavily criticized just because it doesn't have a freakish, spaceship ugly interio, ala Civic

As for C&D being slow....check out Road and Track. They cannot get a Z06 in the 11's!!!
M/T, C&D and GM have no problems doing that.
Looking back to the very first C&D road test--the Solstice ran 15.7--but last month rana 15.3.
So the 2.4L SS should fare a similar fate.
Liking the interior is one thing, it being made of cheap materials is another, I think the interior is pretty well done for what it is, but it did exhibit rattles and whatnot when I drove one (a brand new one off the lot), it wasn't excessive by any means, certainly no more then you experience in an SX2.0 or an SRT (SRT is worsened by the amount of cabin vibration), but it was definitally there off and on. But when I asked the salesman about it, I was informed that it pretty much is an issue in all the cars (along with the leather on the passenger side door being cut wrong) and that baring fixing it myself by insulating whatever was rattling there's nothing that could be done about it, which is a pretty shitty thing to say to someone looking to buy a car from you...but that's neither here nor there.
I'm not a person to take what magazines say as the absolute truth, but imo they do have some justification for the remarks regarding the interiors, this amongst other things is the reason that Hondas/Acuras generally get higher marks in reviews, they have to take more into account then how fast the car is, otherwise they might as well just post performance numbers and call it a day.
I drive a 2001 Prelude and of the few Cobalts / Neons / Cavaliers / Civics...etc that are around my neighbourhood I'd have to say I get reved at by Domestics far more then imports (and there's no shortage of either). I can barely get down the main stretch without someone reving and staring at me, I don't street race so they generally get pissed when I refuse to go. I've only seen one S/C Cobalt around town, and he just nodded at me, didn't rev and didn't take off like his ass was on fire. Don't hate the cars, hate the drivers.

It was Motor Trend who tested the Cobalt 2.4SS, not Car and Driver, and as for the 15.05, that was with my WAI, I hit a 15.22 without it. I think breaking the car in has a lot to do with it.
The Camaro Y87 did have the positraction and the the higher gears (only 3.23 with the manual) and it also had Z28 steerig, Z28 rear discs, and Z28 two tone body pieces. I also had a CAI on the car when I hit a 15.19, but stock it was 15.3ish.
