2.4 Vs. H22 Prelude

This kid at my school has a late 80's prelude si? (has an si badge). Anyways he has an H22 swap done on it and today after school my and my bro were driving and he was in front of us. So we end up pullin over and talkin and then we decided that we were gonna race.

So we go from a dig and I had it in "L", 3 honks to go and were off. I got him off the line and just kept walking on him. We went to about 85-90mph and I had about 6 cars on him. I assume he got off the gas after I kept pullin on him. I thought he might have got me.

Coolness. Us 2.4l are racking up alot of kills recently.
AND you did it in an auto. When did you shift up into "I"?

sounds like the kids is either lying about the h22 swap or he doesnt know how to drive... I use to have a h23 prelude and i hung out with a lot of kids with h22.... h22 is putting out 190 hp.... beings u were 6 cars ahead..... id say he is lying about the swap.

i used to have an 89 lude (3rd gen) and it is next to impossible to do the famous H22A swap, seeing as how the h22 is out of the honda CRV you hav to do sooo much custom work its not even worth it, i believe its the better half of 10 grand for the customization and parts alone

Does L make you accelerate quicker? Whenever I've raced someone I've always put it in I. (which I have no idea what that stands for, anybody know?) Have a 2.2 by the way.

"L" is a low gear, and will keep it in 1st and 2nd gear, regardless of Rpms
"I" is an intemediate gear, and will use the entire range of gears, but will use the LOWEST gear possible. The engine drags on the transmission when you'r not accelerating, but provides more direct power when you are.
"D" is basically our overdrive, and will use the HIGHEST gear possible when shifting.

You'll get better starts using "L" because you can keep it in 2nd gear into 5-6K rpms before moving it into "I" and letting it shift up

So I should start in L and when it hits 6k rpms in second gear, shift to I and leave it in that setting for the rest of the race?

I'm gonna have to try this.

H22 is also out of the 93 and up prelude si. the 4th gens cam with h23 which was a non vtec 2.3 liter which pushed 160hp, they also could have a h22 which was a vtec 2.2 liter which pushed 190hp. the 5th gen ludes all had h22 i think. Also.... I use to hang out with a lot of guys who modded ludes and most 3rd genners would go with a B series engine vs a h series. h series didnt take to turbo as well as the B series... why mod with an engine that isnt goin to be turbo friendly?

Leave it in "L", the tranny will shift on its' own at approximately 6300 RPM. Once you are in Second upshift to "I" and the tranny will shift at the best peak into third.

I'm pretty sure the h22 was only in the preludes and not in the crv. I thought the crv only had a b20 in it but I could be mistaken.

im not sure what the crvs had, but i think u could use the bottom end of it and use the head of an h22 and make a huge frankenstein engine, but i dont think many people successfully did it.

ok off topic, but i always use "L" for first gear and then shift into "I" for the rest..should i be leaving it in "L" and then shift into "I" after 2 gears for the rest of the race

the Vtec crvs use h22, or maybe h23, regaurdless neither of them will drop into a 3rd gen lude without a lot of work, far from a straight drop

I have raced my friend with a 2001 Integra with a h22 swap, with hondata, I/E/H hes running low 15's high 14's and i can keep up with him with a 2.4 SS sedan I/E/HPT auto, it is very close, and his motor came out of a prelude, not a CRV. he also has a type R integra that is FAAAAAAAAAAAst, all motor 13.5 sec car. but he has a fully built bottom and top end.
