Hey, I love the blue leather! How many Smurfs do you think had to die for GTO leather interiors?

Explain to me where you ever tell me something i dont know? Obviously my LT1 is a 2nd gen, obviously my LS1 is a 3rd gen. But where in the hell does what generation motor it is have to do with CR and detonation?

By your logic i should go out and make a 13:1 CR engine slap 10psi on it and make 800whp. Go ahead, do it and get back to me. Let me know how hard it is to tune that thing, and how much meth and E85 it would require.

I guess the mountains of Engine builders building a Low CR boosted shortblock are doing it because they are all dumb? Ever think there might be a reason they choose a lower CR?

And yeah go ahead and make 700whp on a stock shortblock LSx, if the rod bolts dont fail first then the rods and pistons will. Even if you manage to run it without detonation, knock/ping etc it would last a week tops.

Yeah it can be fast, i had a friend run 15lbs on a stock block and pulled a 600rwhp GTO in a race. Next week that engine had grenaded. Just because your cobalt is boosted doesnt mean you know jack **** about tuning it or building a motor.

well first off i do alot of texting. and i graduated out of high school before most of you little ******** were even being considered squirted out. it really doesn't matter if the person is smart enough to read between the lines. but i guess the younger generation need to have the words spelled correct or they do not know what a person means. and it is alright, you can put me and my car down as much as you like. i know what i have and whats been done to it, and whats being done to it right now. as far as the interior of the gto.... well your are jelious. hell i have rode in many of the cobalts, or should i say a over grown cavalier with a turbo. and you all speculate on here to much. black leather with yellow stitching, yellow car. i am just glad i have a car that they only made a little over 42.000 in 4 yrs. not 3 yrs. the cobalt is in the rustang sales. hell just about everyone has one. me being one that don't and no plans to get one. but out of all the bashing i still like this forum. all you young drivers that the only car you have ever owned is a cobaltss, so to whom ever it concerns!!!! you guy's can kiss my ass.lol.
Oh i forgot. i better spell that out for you illiterate young people. laugh out loud.

actually...my my logic, if you want to run 8psi, 10-11:1 CR is what you should run....
EDIT: i misread your provided number, at 10psi, you would probably want right at 10:1 CR, possibly lower, as if you read my post, you;re right on the border of the ranges of CR i provided
im sorry, but changing my argument to something ridiculous, then trashing it does not mean i lose the argument, it means you destroyed an argument that i never used, and accomplished nothing.

as for the generation of engine, it makes a difference. combustion chamber design in LS motors > LT motors. Thats a huuuge change in engine dynamics right there. Of course the LT did have reverse cooling, which would help control knock as well, but again, thats another point where generation DOES play an important role. To think all generations are the same is ignorant. One of the few places where you can think theyre the same is gen 3-4, as they are both LS motors and share almost everything, but even still you must acknowledge the gen 4 motors are superior by design

And yeah go ahead and make 700whp on a stock shortblock LSx, if the rod bolts don't fail first then the rods and pistons will. Even if you manage to run it without detonation, knock/ping etc it would last a week tops.
again, where did i claim a stock short block? you still have yet to counter anything i've said

that's true....but the same can be said for you. Just because you're on a car forum doesn't mean you know half as much as i do. I never claimed that because i boosted a motor I'm a tuning god, but you don't know how much research or work ive done on cars before. For all you know, I work at an engine fabrication/installation shop and have years of experience, or maybe im a 16 year old kid who lives on teh interwebz
Do you know half as much? probably, but i don't really know one way or the other, so stop acting like a four year old and assuming you know what anyone on these boards has as their knowledge base.

I'm glad you made such a productive post.

and to Max, yes i would say the car has a much nicer interior than 99-04 mustangs, a slightly better interior to 05+ mustangs, and a better interior than the SRT8 cars solely because those cars have really boxy looking interiors. Is it a mercedes? no. Is there cheap plastic all over? no.
You honestly think this is a hideous interior?

compared to this?

i will say though, 04goat, you're killing your own argument and discrediting it with the immature posts buddy. quit while you're ahead

I'm glad you made such a productive post.
I will have to be short because i am in a hurry and the girlfriend wants me off the internet. But nowhere in the post did i ever see a mention of built shortblocks, i only see mention of LSx, given i haven't thoroughly searched back to see if i had perhaps missed it.

With a built block anything is possible, pretty much the limit of possibility is the limit of your wallet. For safe reliable builds low compression is your friend.

I had no intention of relating all different generations or types of motors being the same merely based upon CR. To answer that question, yes i would trade my Gen III motor for a Gen IV, i would have to be stupid to not want one I love my heads and my motor, but cathedral ports have proven inferior to the new designs.

I as well made a mistake in reading your posts, as i skimmed through it and misinterpreting that you werent leading to the fact of making 700whp on a stock shortblock, surely you can understand why i took arms against that notion?

This is a fun discussion, but we should take this to private discussion for fear of confusing the others and hijacking this post.

ok sir.. we get it.. old semi-illiterate hillbillies rule, and folks with a firm grasp of the english language should just adapt to your absolute mindless dribble you call speaking. You have officially been applauded now please move along and let the other "little ********" (as you so eloquently put it) continue this interesting little debate without your nonsense being tossed in the mix.

I love the GTO but you have single-handedly forced me to develope an unnecessary dislike for the car simply by your association with it..

If you graduated high school before I was born, that would make you 46..... So what is a 46 yr old doing driving a rwd grand am, and posting on a cobalt forum...... I hope when I am 46 I am driving an M5 or something, I should be retired for 6 years by then.

Hey there Paco, easy on the "old guy stuff". I'm 48 and I drive a SS/TC because it's a fun car, and I'm a car-guy, not because it's inexpensive. I've had 40 vehicles, quite a few of them "enthusiast" cars. I also have my Crotch Rocket to satisfy my need for speed. I can afford about whatever vehicle I want. If you want an M5 I hope you get it even sooner than you'd hope because everyone deserves to have what they really want, but PLEASE don't lump all us "old farts" in the same group.
I'd apologize for the thread jack but this thread has LONG gone astray.
Carry on lol

You know who that was directed at. I just hope at 46 I am not in a cobalt thread boasting about my GTO. I could afford a used M5 now, but I just would rather wait till I am going through a mid-life crisis, and get a newer one. I am not the youngest guy in this thread by far. No insult meant to the "Civil Mature" crowd around here.

first of all drewbroo, i didn't start the gto stuff. it is just a gm car, same as yours and all the others on here. and i am over 50 by the way. And thats not old by anymeans. and i am not an illiterate old man. i have my own shop. me and my youngest son work on all kinds of cars. meaning we do alot of 4 cyl swaps. we do custom fabrication work on cars as well.
I do like getting on here and bsing, it's just that every once in a while you guy's get all bent out of shape on the gto thing. i am just glad you all on here drive what you like, as that is what i drive. oh yea we also do v8 swaps to. just to let you no. i am like redninja6r. i have owned many cars, never a cycle as i personally do not like them. had a very good friend loose his life on one. one thing i have seen for the 2 yrs or so i have been on here, Is that you guy's argue alot and about some very silly stuff, but that is how a forum works. everyone can't be pleased and there will always be someone that know's more than someone else.

now back to the cars. just a pole!!!! How many on here work on there own cars or go have the oil changed, plugs changed, air filter changed, a full service, meaning tranny too. i can see if the car is under warranty and something breaks. but if you have modded your car then your warranty has gone bye bye. so this illiterate old man wants to know.
And how many let there mommy and daddy do it, cause mommy and daddy bought it for you. me and everyone else on here would be suprised on just how much a person really knows about fixing and makeing there car runs better. but i know that i would say 90% on here isn't going to tell the truth, so i am just wasting my time. what i have seen on forums, you learn alot from reading others threads. and apply them to you, this all boils down to saying stuff about people that you no nothing about. only that they drive a certain kind of car.
you guys drive a but ugly sedan with a excellent engine in it. the same with my gto. so i'll let you all carry on with your bsing.

Guess im the odd one that actually likes the look of my car... I buy my cars based off looks then reliability. I refuse to sit in something everyday that i hate the look of just because the drivetrain is nice. Plenty of nice looking cars with nice drivetrains, rather spend the money to get both or i would just end up getting rid of it anyways because i couldnt stand the sight of it.

I love the look of my car. And so do alot of others. I am constantly getting compliments on it, especially from people I don't know, like if I'm getting gas etc. And it's a mix of old/young/male/female.

I like the look of my car. When I was carshopping, I test drove and compared a wrx, a civic si, a mazdaspeed 3, and the cobalt ss/sc. That was the beginning of '07. I hated the way the mazda looked, I'm just not a hatch guy, and it was too expensive. The civic looks ok, personally I'm not the biggest fan of their new styling. I've seen some that look sick, but they aren't stock. But the civic was forever slow. And overpriced. The wrx I liked, but it felt too cheap. It had like zero options. And I wasn't a fan of that style wrx, I actually hated subaru for not sticking with the '05 body style longer. In my honest opinion, the cobalt looked the best, was in the top 2 for speed/acceleration, and had the most options just being stock.

vq you have a problem. yes i am over 50. yes i am on a cobalt site. and no i do not troll. some of you guys are unbelievable. just get over it. i like my gto the same way you like your cobalt. i mod my gto the same as you mod your cobalt. tell me whats the difference in the gm products. wheather it is a cadaliac, gto, or a cobalt, all are gm. just some have better interior than others. some are a better car than others. but that doesn't make any difference to me. i am a car nut. i love working on them. no matter what it is. foreign or domestic. one thing is i will be on here from time to time. i do not get out of being on the net as much as you younger generation. as far as the cars do go the car that redninja6r has is the best looking year there is. might not be the fastest stock. but definately the best looking. and like i said my 04 gto is one of the worst looking gto's there ever was. doesn't match a thing of the past.
but that don't make it a bad car as all make it out to be. everyone can find bad in everything, especially in cars and people. one thing is i will be on here reading and laughing my ash off. why!!! Because this is a good site, with some good people on it. have a nice day all...
