Beat a Camero SS

By 1/2 a car from a dig twice....it was a close race i thought he was gonna beat me at first. some truck came out from the side and crossed 3 lanes to get in front of me i was going about 120 i slowed to about 60 then had to swerve the camero was next to me so i couldn't earlier. it was close i usually don't race during the day but the camero was acting an ass

really cause an ss won't murder a z28. you better have quite a few mods for a statement like that.

sorry, you're right. I apologize. I'm just sick and tired of the same exact misinformation on this forum being argued and bull **** kills being posted because of it. Everyone thinks ws6 and ss are way faster than the z28's and TA's when in reality they are nearly identical in acceleration. All of them will run low 13's and are capable of high 12's with a great driver as far as the ls1's go.

I, too, must apologize. I was only putting in personal experience when I said a SS would walk a Z28. I have never experienced the power of an SS, just always heard an SS was faster. Now I know! I've outran a few Z28's but never got to mess with a SS.

i believe if i am not mistaken the z28 in 02 was rated at 305 at the crank, and the ss was rated like 320 at the crank? i believe i am relatively close on this. Not much power diff at all

realistically, all of the ls1's put down near identical power levels. An ls1 is an ls1. Variation in power is ~5hp between the different models. Really, all of the ls1's made about 340ish hp at the crank.

Seriously though, how many times are you or anyone else with some knowledge gonna have to correct everyone about how an SS and Z28 are basically identical? I know on here it has been done several times, just like on Mustangforums, LOL.

Everytime someone f's it up.............only takes one thread read by one teenager, who repeats it over and over until it becomes the acceptable crap like in the beginning of this thread.

Exactly, ratings were crap.
The difference was a freer flowing exhaust for the most part.

Typically, they Z28 put down as much as the same year SS.

By the way. I only ran a 14.3 in my old stock Lt1 so I do believe I woulda gave myself a run for my money with my Cobalt

Yup
Freakin big 4 door family Maxima runs faster than many old skool muscle cars!

This was the good age, although I hear GM killed its power lineup.

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/18/b...le-operations/

Coinciding with the release of General Motors' Viability Plan, the automaker has disbanded its High Performance Vehicle Operations team, the crew responsible for the line V-series Cadillacs, the Chevrolet Cobalt SS, HHR SS and the V8 version of the Colorado. According to Vince Muniga, a spokesman for the General, "All high-performance projects are on indefinite hold. The engineers are moving into different areas of the organization, and they will work on Cadillacs, Buicks, Chevrolets and Pontiacs." Muniga went on to say that there are no plans for high-performance versions of upcoming plans, but once (if?) GM is in a better financial position, the team could be reinstated.

I've done HUNDEREDS of road tests for several publications and owned several Z-SS models and a WS6 plus the forbarer of the WS6 the (Firebird Firehawk). The SS\WS6 models in manual tranny form are the fastest..with the automatics being 1 second slower in all acceleration aspects.... The fastest stock tested Z28 SS M6 ran 0-60 in 4.9 sec in 2002 and ran the quarter in 13.4 sec at 107 mph.. The WS6 M6 was about 2 tenths slower and 1-2 mph slower as well... Why? 75 lbs heavier due to pontiacs typical body clading add-ons. The firehawk was a tie.... In automatic form these cars, stock, could not break the 14 sec barrier at more than 98 mph for the Z28 and base v8 ta but the margin in the automatic SS\WS6 was a split ....

Plus a handful of SS models had the LT4 340+ hp and the Firehawk had this engine as well... other than that the LS1's varied by about 20 hp between the models... 310-340 hp1999-2002.... and the LT1 started in the Z28 at 275 hp in the early 90's....
