Angry Cobalt vs Type S

Ok I want everyone’s opinion on this

Ok alto of people ive talked to have been saying that an RSX Type S can take a Cobalt SS?!!? I have never thought and never will think that a Type S can take an SS because, first I own an SS and it’s a beast. 2nd ive raced a Type S and beat him by 1 ½ cars, (Ive only driven a stick car for 2 weeks so im still new and not that great of a speed shifter). 3rd I drove my friends type s and ok the interior sux! There is nothing inspiring, the shifter feels like a toy it doesn’t feel like its attached to the car!? And damn it desperately needs a short shifter, all its got going for it is the clutch, all I had to do was move my foot 2 inches to open the clutch all the way.

With Hp and Tq the SS will take a Type S, so why do I hear such negativity when people compare them!?

It's probably simply because of the respect that people give Acuras. Many people that haven't driven the SS don't believe that it can be as good as it really is. You really have to drive it to know what it's all about. Hopefully this car will build some compact street cred for GM.

TYpe-S and SS

We have an Acura CL3.2 Type-S (automatic) We're going to race them in the 1/4 mile sometime. Or maybe even on the road. This Type-S will be quicker out of the hole, but my SS will be quicker on the top speed. Drove the RSX Type-S and it just doesn't have the guts. You have to drive it like you hate it too. Its a dog and heavy. But, yes there is respect for Acuras cuz they are just plain "pimp" and "luxury".

I purchased an SS/SC at although it is not here yet and I can't say to much for sure about it but the Type S is a beautiful car. I firmly believe the performance of the SS/SC is superior but the style and handling of the Type S is great. I have driven them and I wanted to buy one but they are too much $$ for me. The SS/SC is a very affordable car with unbelievable performance. I have also owned 2 Acura's so I'm not an import basher. A 1995 acura Integra RS and a 1994 Acura Integra GSR. Chevy makes great automobiles and I actually became interested in the SS/SC because I believe the curves of the vehicle are similar to the type S when put side by side. And to tell you the truth, when people talk about takng the factory rims of the SS/SC and puting different rims on it it makes me sick. I think these rims are awesome and any of the cobalts I have seen with different rims on them throughout the net I can honestly say don't come close. Some are in fact totally ugly.
I bought a chevy and I'm proud of it. (Minus the fact that all of my family and friends have been asking me when my cars coming for the last 3 months and I keep telling them I don't know. I don't think most of them will be buying a GM any time soon. They're not impressed.)

The RSX-S runs a 14.7 in the 1/4 mile, at best. And thats with a professional driver on a closed track, not on the street. The RSX-S has to be driven very agressively to get the best performance out of it, and launching is very tempermental when you only have 143 ft/lbs of torque and it comes at 7,000 RPM. Its very easy to bog or stall on launch with the RSX-S, not to mention tht if the engine happens to fall out of the powerband by a small margin, the race is over.

Bottom line is that the Cobalt SS S/C is both faster and easier to drive than the peaky RSX-S. However, they are both still very nice cars no matter which you choose.

Really? I thought Hondas have the most flat torque curve for a N/A 4 banger. Besides Hondas arent really big on displacement when it comes to 4-bangers...

The interior on the RSX is nearly the same as the Civic. I don't see what the big deal is about those cars. It's CERTAINLY not a luxury car by any means! It is a nice little car, but go check out a Lexus if you want luxury, not the RSX.

I've driven riding lawnmowers with more torque than a Honda.

I tried out an RSX and RSX Type S. I have never been so unimpressed with a car since I drove a new Mustang GT. Both RSX 's were not happy unless you were flogging the **** out of them, they had nothing away from the light and the power didn't seem to come in unitl like 4000-5000RPM. Handling was good, and the brakes were pretty decent too, but in a drag race, I want acceleration by the truckful. The Type S I drove was 'bargain priced' at like $26,000... I told the salesman that i could run my base ass Cobalt 5speed and smoke the plain RSX hands down. I told him the that Cobalt SS would feast on the bloated corpse of the Type S without fear.

His reply? "But they're Chevys. They'll be in the shop inside of a week."
What do you say that? So I got back in my spiffy new Cobalt and left without a word. It's going on two weeks, and my Cobalt is still making me smile.

A RSX Type S might run a 15.0 with a good driver, maybe.

I disagree I've driven a types S and I sorry for $40K on the road with no options and disapointing performance for the money I think the SS was a much better buy.

the one thing i liked more on the acura was the interior but not by much, and the the lower clutch, much quicker then the typicaly high gm clutch

Honda tests all their new products in Japan first. So by the time they get over to the USA all the kinks are worked out, so it's not that Honda's don't have problem, it's just that they fix all the problems before they make it over to the USA. Thats why all the Japan get the PS2 and XBOX 6 months before us.

BTW Adirondack what parts are you from. I got up to Raquatte Lake/ Eagles Bay at least once a year.

heres my proof = ACURA

Sure the S/C is .5 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile... woopty do - the aftermarket support for the type-S and cobalt isnt even comparable... nor will it be in 2 years from now.

Do i even need to mention resale value, build quality or handling.

Next thing you know you guys are gonna tell me the Corvette is a better car then the NSX.

Dont get me wrong i love the ss s/c but c'mon now... most of you are all giddy cause you just bought one and want it to be "the best"
