Encounter with GTO?

From a stop light I take off and out of the corner of my eye, on the right, I see a black car
pull away pretty quick so I decide to floor it and I can see he's trying to keep up.... but fading..I still can't get a good view until he's behind me and gives up. The car had hood scoops and looked a LOT like this car:

I got a better look when he passed me as I turned..had a wing on the back too.
Pontiac GTO? It was pretty fast..but definitely could not keep up. I'm tuned SS/TC.

That's kind of surprising actually. Those GTOs really are no joke. Doesn't really matter if it's an LS1 or LS2, generally in stock form they can still keep up, if not edge out a tuned SS/TC. If it's modded then forget about it, a TC just can not hang especially up top. Either way, good kill man!

The black goat out here couldn't keep up with my old fashioned LSJ either. Be safe

Well I just checked the specs...it was definitely a 2005 UP..they didn't have hood scoops on earlier (say 2004 with less HP).

Performance
Acceleration (0-60 mph): 5.8 sec. Braking Distance (60-0 mph): 128.96 ft.
Base Number of Cylinders: 8 Base Engine Size: 6 liters
Base Engine Type: V8 Horsepower: 400 hp
Max Horsepower: 5200 rpm Torque: 400 ft-lbs

OK, the CURB weight is 3700LBs..a full 700 lbs heavier than my SS/TC. As a *rule* you give up about 10-15 HP for every 100lbs..so the GTO *acts* like a 300HP car when compared to a 3000lb car. I know my crank HP is at least 300HP with a ton of low end torque. So...yeah it would be a close race, but you can see it's rated at 5.8sec 0-60 and my car has *about* a 5.0 sec potential with the tune.
Advantage SS/TC.

LOL

A stock LS2 GTO goes 0-60 in 4.8 and traps around 108. There have been member on LS1/LS2GTO to run 12.8-13.0 consistently in a stock LS2 GTO. A cammed LS2 GTO would murder a Cobalt even making 350WHP. If the GTO just has bolt ons then I believe the kill.

A stock GTO vs a stock Cobalt Turbo the LS2 GTO will walk all day.

there is no way in hell you beat a gto. And ls1/ls2 gto's with the hood scoops doesn't matter. People swap hoods. From a former gto owner, you would have been eaten alive. My guess is, if it was a gto, he wasn't racing you

While i agree... i cant help but shake my head at this post. So if we cant assume its a GTO we just assume you raced a "Mystery" car that may or may not have been racing.

In my head i keep thinking to the OP, "and your point is...."

OP, how much power is your car making? If you arent making at least 300whp against a stock GTO, then I dont see this being an LS2 GTO.

Wow, guy claims a kill on a fatass V8 and you jump all over him. When I only had a tune, and a ic on my 09 SS I ran a bolted up LS1 GTO (making a tad bit more power then a stock LS2) and I pulled about 3-4 cars on him from a 45 roll (his pick) and held it to 140 when I let off. Tuned Cobalt SS's easily trap over what stock GTO's do. Minor bolt on GTO's (Catback or intake) aren't really any quicker. Once you throw a good header or tune in though the Cobalt will start having trouble.

I know what youre saying and I agree, but he said "tuned". Could be GMS1 or Trifecta. BIG difference. Also, is that his only mod? Just want to know a little about his car first, thats all.

Yea I wouldn't see a GMS1 car beating a stock 6.0 but an HP Tuned Balt could easily hand a stock 6.0 a surprise.
