father in law vs son

Well after readying T-mans post i decided to write a similiar post of my own. unfortunately not as exciting but wanted to share it anyways. My father in law shares a 2010 Kia Forte Koup 2.4 with his wife. He's always talking smack about my SS/TC Sedan saying it's a family car and would never beat the Forte. I'm sure he knew he wasn't going to be faster but had no idea just how fast my car is compared to his. Today we decided to pick up my mother in law for mothers day and take her out to brunch. Sure enough they wanted to follow in the Koup and father wanted to drive. I drove really slow through town just to get him going a bit. Then when we hit the open road i sped up to the speed limit. I saw him gun it up behind me and go to pass... i waited for him to get to my rear bumper and then dropped a gear and stepped on it. He got to my front fender before i proceeded to put buslengths on him and shut down at around 180km/h. When we got off the highway i sped up to the limit quickly again and watched him try to catch up. When we got to the restaurant he was pretty quiet. I prodded him a bit about how slow he was. He then bugged me all through brunch what i had done to it. After brunch he asked me to go outside and pop my hood and also my trunk because he was sure i had nitrous or something "done to it" lol It was all in fun but i guess he won't be teasing me about my little Cobalt anymore :P

Cliff notes: Cobalt SS/TC Sedan > Kia Forte Koup 2.4 .. but i think we all knew that..

Does he know nothing about cars? I mean, my sister could tell you that a 260hp cobalt is faster than a 170hp kia.

ya i know i tried to warn him but he didn't believe me.. again he was pulling my leg and teasing to some extent but maybe he thought the kia was faster than i thought. i honestly don't think he expected to win but i doubt he knew what he was up against. he did say.. come on there's no way had that much get up and go with a 4 cylinder.. it must be a 6.. you must have something done to it.. nitrous or an aftermarket turbo installed. i think it's funny when he teases me and it's all in fun but i think the teasing won't be as common anymore :P

I've driven that 2.4 Kia Koup. They feel way slower than the 2.4 SS with almost the exact same hp and tq. I bet even an SS/NA would put a length or two on that car.

he doesn't know that much and we all knew that. he just likes to poke fun.. the koup has a bit of power but obviously not as much as he maybe thought. it's common for people to underestimate the cobalt SS especially when it has four doors.

Seeing as I know both parties in this little story, I can assure everyone reading that the father in law is very well aware of what his car is able to do and what cobalt_daddy's car is able to do. He truly just likes to tease Cobalt_Daddy about his car as that is how they used to bond together as "father" and "son", however there will be less bonding going on now, oh well, as long as everyone knows whos car is faster apparently that is more important then sharing those bonds with their fathers. Good job Cobalt_Daddy, hope you feel really proud....

You sound like a whiney b*tch.

So the father in law could only "bond" by teasing Cobalt_daddy, and now you are upset because that type of "bonding" wont be happening anymore.

Seriously? Get over yourself. Why would proving he has a faster car than the person antagonizing him suddenly destroy the foundation of their relationship, unless it was shakey at best beforehand.

Ford, due to lack of time and care to explain in greater detail the situation there is obviously more to the story then I was able to share, cobalt_daddy knows what I am talking about here and he is the only one I care to have understand. Thank you for your comment though, all the best to you!

Well if there is more to the story then i can understand.

But from the way you worded it, it seemed like the only bonding was the being picked on. However i can see that if Cobalt Daddy took the gentle teasing and turned it into a pissing match how things would be different.

Either way im gonna get this off topic. Best to you as well.

cobaltchick still sounds whiney though. There is no need for her to bring that into this thread. If you have a problem then take it up with the OP, don't spread your attitude here.

To the OP, you should have sandbagged.

Lol oh ppl .. I already said he knew he probably wouldn't win.. But I'm sure he thought his car was faster than he thought .. Either way it didn't hurt any relationship I have with him .. It's just someones opinion of the situation. I remember this person telling me to race him and show him that my family car is faster.
In any case I had fun doing it and so did he.. So no harm done. By no means am I belittling anyone I'm just sharing a story I thought was funny..
