GTPs are mostly midrange it seems...

Hm, so here I was cruising around at night after work, looking for a good 4 wheel drive to buy to drive this winter since last winter nearly failed with the Balt plowing the snow with the bumper. I stop at a stop light and a grand prix stopped next to me. I thought nothing of it, half asleep anyways. Green light went, I launch good like I always do at any stop light and pull ahead of this guy in the Grand Prix. The Grand Prix then passes me as I let off to shift in a relaxed mood. Well, I just stomp the gas, dumbfounded by what I then saw was a GTP and what he did to me. I end up hitting the rev limiter in 1st still dumbfounded and tired. I then run through the gears, hes already probably 6-7 cars ahead of me. It takes me to get to 3rd gear before I finally pass him. I have a couple car lengths on him by 80 so I let off as to not get a ticket and let the GTP do the ricer fly-by. But that GTP really amazed me. In his midrange I pulled slowly but once he got to top end I pulled pretty hard. Never thought they had power like that. Always thought they were too heavy. This car could have been tuned or something, idk, was some random guy.

I was just saying it seems that he was all midrange. I figured they could be wicked with things done to them, but I'm pretty sure he was all stock unless he was a sleeper. I'd heard of both a GTP and a 90 model Grand Prix GT racing each other from back in high school and the GT took it. The GT even had the old 3100 with like 140hp. But oh well, I guess that GTP that the GT ran was gutted.

ya if its a 2dr gtp supercharged like a 2000 or 2001, they can get moving, you can do similar mods like smaller pulleys and bigger injectors ect. so thats a 3.8 supercharged if modded they will fly, my friend had one i almost baught for 3500 and it was an auto, he could stop and just punch it and it would smoke em for a good while

ya theyre prolly more midrange but with mods theyll be fast, the bonneville supercharged was just to heavy to be real fast, i believe they are similar set up, not for sure, my dad owned an old bonneville and it was supercharged and for what it was it was quick

sounds more like he left off by the time you hit 3rd and blazed by him.

Just found out from a friend that theres a guy running around in that particular area with the same color GTP that had Series II underdrive pulleys and a Superchips tune. If that was him, that might have been why. I don't know much about the GTP or the difference between the series II and III pulleys, but I'm sure if he changed his pulleys, it was for more boost.

Yea, thats what I thought because he definitely got smoked when he got into his top end. I just kept pulling and pulling on him then. But from about midrange seemed like he was hitting peak power.
