On the flip side - LS1 engines are actually old technology. It does say something that the first gen LS series is still this dangerous. It credits the naturally aspirated LS engine that it can run with purpose built turbo's making 20-plus psi of boost with some fairly generic upgrades, even if the cylinder count is different. I know my first gen small block couldn't make that same claim without race heads, a radical cam, and barely streetable manners.

I think everyone in this post has missed the fact that it's a race at 5800ft. Sea level would be a completely different outcome for the n/a car.

Does he buzz it to 7k with that setup? I doubt it! He'd need to get more radical to benefit from that high of a stall, and I think his mods are backwards, making him actually a weaker player - that's all I'm sayin'!
That 4000 is perfect, gets you right in the meat of the powerband for a good while, spun it to the stock redline. A stock LS1 cam is dead after 5200 or so.

My point was that there is benefit to putting a stall in a basically stock LS1; my point was not that he should go with a higher stall, as you interpreted.

That car is now a heads/cam car though.

Hey now, I thought he wanted to go from a little higher speed and by the time I realized we were going from 20, he was already honking it off so I just said eff it, this Cobalt has a pretty broad powerband, I'll just go.

It doesnt change the fact that modding a rear wheel drive pony is always >>> a fwd econobox plain and simple. A tuned 4 banger can beat a STOCK ls1, put any kinds of mods on the ls1 and its lights out. You hit a glass ceiling, LSx motors don't. Give me the money you put in your turbo kit and i can guarantee i will rape you every which way from sunday. Until your car makes over 400hp sit down, you arent even close to touching my power levels (600+ on a stock block), now get back to your corner.

i will agree with you, but i cant stand the cobalt nutswingers that try so hard to prove their econobox is better, it isnt, plain and simple. Its a great little car and they are decent quick.
