Mazdaspeed Protege HAHAHAHA
Mazdaspeed Protege HAHAHAHA
Well it was sunday night and i was on my home from work and beside me was a yella(as GM would say it) mazdaspeed protege so light turns green i just take off like normal and get on the interstate speed limit in town on the interstate is 60 and he passes me i do not try and catch him til we got out of the city limits i am going about 85 and catching him I am about 5 or 6 car length behind and then i see him wip it over and start pulling away i was like i wounder if i can catch him so i down shift to 4th catch him and 120 and about 125-128 hes like 6 car lengths behind me i thought because the car was turbo it would have been a better race but oh well the car is a joke. IMO.
Don't get too bigheaded how do you know for sure it was an actual MSP because they run about the same times as your cars. Sounds kind of far-fetched you being 5-6 cars back, flooring it and making up what like 6+6 carlength =12 car lengths on him by 128? C'mon dude..... My one buddy has a black MSP with a couple mods like a Corksport exhaust system and intake and whips on this one kid in his red SS/SC pretty good ALL the time! I think you raced a regular Protege.
dude, there is no way that you know for sure that it was a mazdaspeed or not. the mazda protege mp3 looks just like the mazdaspeed, EXACTLY like the mazdaspeed but with no turbo. you don't know for sure. i know you would beat a stock one. but a mildly modded one would give you a hell of a run. especially brian's mp5t. i've read a lot about him. lol. i used to own a mp5. anyways, my point is you don't really know if it was a mazdaspeed or not. so don't claim it.

I guess we cant assume that any car is what it is ....no wait thats retarded ...
fist off the mazda speed does not run the same times as we do they have put down some good numbers (still much slower than our cars) and some terrible (I recall a 7.4 0-60 ) ....they are handling cars mazda didnt take the time to forge the internals and the result was a great car that could have had allot of potential if it was stronger out of the box.
secondly there are absolutly ways to tell it apart...the most obvious being the different rims and the different spoilers

as well I have raced my good friends Spicy Orange Speed and absolutly **** kicked it over and over , I'm sorry to say as much as I love the car its no comparison speed wise
I raced a Mazda Speed Protege, to say that they are in our league stock for stock isn't extactly true, the best time I've seen a stock one run was a flat 15, most of them run maybe a low to mid 15 with a standard driver. It might be a good race stock for stock to run against a N/A SS 2.4
They do boost quick though, gotta give them that but i've yet to run across one that I wasn't able to handle. I've had a few close encounters with ones with some work done though. They are a nice car. I dig em
Can't say that I totally believe this story. I can believe catching up with him ahead at a light and showing him what's up but our cars don't pull that freaking hard against them.

Actually, there is.
For one reason or another, just about every msp that came from factory has a different boost level.
some come 7.5 stock, others 8 or even 9. mine came with 3.5
Are you racing the 2.0l or the 2.4?
Give you're friend the benifet of a $8 mbc, and let him set it to a nice hearty 9n or 10 lbs. thats safe on stock internals for the most part. unless he plans on redlining it all day long.
I'll bet, 10psi on a msp thats likely 3-400lbs lighter than you're SS will give you a scare. the msp may not win, but you'll definately have a challange.

also being spicy orange means its one of the first gen ones ....(didnt they stop making spicy??) 2003 which makes it the 2.0l (which from what I have seen put down better times)
so basically your saying let him mod it to its questionable breaking point if he rides it hard and still have him fall short. He looked into boosting it ( I was going to help him) but all the info we read on how weak the turbo and internals were made him back away and keep it stock
EDIT for boost numbers (called him)

its not great ..but considering they never planned to turbo the protégé and it was released very quickly to production, its a great car for all the standard equipment you get. It also looks great/handles fantastically. At the time of release it was one of the best choices you could make since the msrp difference over a well optioned protégé was less than cost of the hart racing wheels you get. However it is simply outgunned by the Cobalt.
You guys are compairing the two cars and making it sound like the SS is like a Ford Escort vs a Mustang GT. Gimme a break. Your cars are NOT that far off on 1/4 mile times! Like half a second or so. Thats nothing to be talking like some of you are. I have seen SS/SC's run low 15's stock with like 15 passes down the 1320 and seen the MSP do the same and i also seen MSP's run 14's stock also with a REALLY good driver. The MSP may be underpowered but the SS is a fat ass. They both have their weak and strong points.
I have beat a msp in my mazda 3 gt, I have even swapped cars and got my ass handed to me by my own 3. Were tralking about the regular ss vs MSP right?
no way will I ever shy away from a MSP, has anyone here honestly driven one?
The turbos suck on that car, the tranny is terrible. Now a Mazda 3 with a HiBoost kit will OWN the SS/SC but thats it. Ol Juan can really build a turbo...
This car will not give us SS/SC drivers a scare. I think your talking the regular SS (2.4) that "may" be a drivers race.
Not a bad car, too flaky for me.

"The SS is a fat ass" right because the speed is a featherweight Curb Weight : 2844 lbs those 54 pounds are going to totally overcome 35 horsepower (and thats assuming factory numbers we all know are underrated) and 50 lb/f of torque ...get your facts straight then your opinion can count for something ...
I think the Mazdaspeed Protege is a nice car... especially for auto-x... but I challenge anyone near Kentucky to a drag race. I'm sure some of you Protege guys can find a Mazdaspeed in KY for me if you really want to find out how a drag race will go down. I have a stock SS/SC.
P.S. My buddy with an Evo will come along too. Search your protege forums and find me a race!

13.5 Seconds

Anyone Not Agree?

if your saying what I think that a half second is a huge deal than I agree ...and a whole second is massive (which is more realistic given how inconsistant MSP seem to be)
How the hell did a bunch of friggin msp guys show up on this site? You can't even see the war stories section unless you're registered.Hmmm..I smell a rat somewhere on this site!
Yea, we can't beat a HIGHLY modded msp, maybe. Anything other than that, I think I could handle pretty well. Who cares anyways? There aren't enough of them on the street to worry about anyways.

I will agree that a MP3, Which Looks like a MSP to the trained eye, is a much slower car than an SS.
