how modded are we talking ...you guys cant barley touch 8 psi without crapping yourself that your engine is going to fail hard ..

http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showt...7&page=1&pp=15

you cant add a bov without worrying your car will stall out (a 200$ hardpipe fix)

http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showt...hp?t=123616478

if it gets cold outside and you have reflashed your car you will probably get fuel cut

My point being ...that any MSP that is modded enough to give us a run for our money costs more than a MSP should and way more than our car ... for you to get the the whp we have you are looking at a huge amount of money. So no it was not an MP3 since stock our car can handle MSP's that have thousands invested.

secondly nobody should compare modded to Stock ....it gets nowhere ...not to mention I can assure you that our cars will be cheaper to mod and respond better to it simply because they were made with stronger components made to hold power ...we wont have to upgrade internals to bump our psi by measly 4lb ...lol

the MP3 has nothing to do with my post you quoted ... the MSP is a much slower car ... roughly a second ...the MP3 is a snail in comparison ... IIRC a 89 maxima is faster than an MP3

like mr anderson says...whoa...

who in a stock msp is running 13.5's? what did they do, cut the track in half?

i hate to be the mommy in this, but you guys be a little bit more respectful of both cars...
we could have a pissing contest all day, but get it to a track, post some proof, and leave each to their own...

a friendly comparison never hurts

"Cobalt SS's are quick.......but not quick enough for modded MSP's"

oH yeah..

"Well I'll just bolt on a stage two and leave you in a cloud of dust with your underwear around your head'...

This type of one upsmanship just gets nowhere... This is stock vs stock.

I am a huge fan of Mazda, I have had a mazda in the laneway for over 10 years. I have been to Mazda meets and get a long great with all the rotary lads (used to be a rx 7 owner). I have since been to quite a few Mazda events in my 3. You protoge speed guys who are thinking that a few of your bolt ons are going to get you out front of the SS best keep dreaming

That car, as mentioned above, is a great car, its just not going to come close to pulling a SC.

I agree, anyone who thinks MSP's run 13.5 stock is out of their mind

An average stock Mazdaspeed Protege runs 0-60 in 7.0 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 15.4 at 91 MPH. Those numbers, both 0-60 and 1/4 mile, are a full second slower than the SS S/C, and the trap speed is 8MPH lower. There's no way an MSP would even hang with an SS without some extensive mods.

Man, I just read most of their posts over at the site. I just wanted to say "Were being hunted " . Cool, I like the MSP, cant wait to run one again. I also cant wait to see the look on the face of the driver too when he loses by 4 or 5 lengths to the slobalt, classic.

It's Common knowledge in the mazda circle that the turbo set up on the MSP is not that good.

Cue up:

why cant we be friends .mp3

Most of their posts state that a "lightly modified" MSP can hand us our ass. Lets go straight stock. And why does this have to be a pissing contest. I have a friend who has a modified MSP, it's a really nice car and quick. We had a few runs together and neither one of us really came out on top. Of course he had to put a little over $3,000 into it. Still it's a nice car, mutual respect.

Hey Fellas,

I own a MSP and my younger brother owns a Redline. All he has is an open air filter and dynoed at 220whp on a dynojet. I dynoed at 190whp last year. Since then the car has probably less hp. However, when we race I walk him in 3rd gear.

Too bad the redline on the Redline is @ like 6k.

If one of the guys with a 220 sheet asked what other cars were putting down on that dyno, I guarantee you they would be disappointed.

Why is it everytime someone claims to beat a car in a race on this forum the entire community for the car they claimed to beat comes on here acting like their car is so much better than ours. A stock SS is faster and more reliable than MSP. I work at a mazda dealer and almost every MSP we sold has blown a motor or tranny when modified. They would definately outhandle us but beyond that STOCK FOR STOCK we are quicker. Saying that a lightly modified MSP would keep up with us is stupid. Its like saying a lightly modded SS would beat X car stock. Stock for stock or modded for modded our car is quicker. Can we please stop doing this with every thread. Now we have STI guys, SRT guys, and MSP guys lurking around ******* our cars!

I used to have good runs with MSPs in my '02 SVT Focus with just a short ram. I've got a bone stock '04 Red Line (aka. dog) now and there are two yellow MSPs right down the street (Downriver). If those two cats see this and want to try their luck (when the streets dry up) post it up and I'll be happy to oblige.

I cant believe everyone is arguing over such a girly car as the Mazda Protege. I mean c'mon, one dude over there says this
"cut 'n paste.... I refuse to join a cobalt forum as a matter of principle"
and another says this
"ahh damn....another car type we're going to have to hunt down."
Lemme guess, more low 14 second cars with a grand worth of work done
I am by no means a proponent of the Cobalt, but its a whole hell of a lot better than a friggin Protege Sounds like theres a bunch of guys over there that are just aching to get eaten up by a real car

As I read through all this... it just seems terribly redundant. MazdaSpeeds are very nice cars. You can mod them up real nice and make them real quick. Bone stock... the SS will overcome the Mazda Speed. But when modded... they will be a close race. And a 1/2 second is a hell of a difference... ones the 'winning' time and the other... 'losing'. I see a big difference there. Brain MP5T... your comments are truely great... funny, smart ass, to the point, and racy... good job. Lets just call this forum a win/win situation. The SS... stock/stock race against the MazdaSpeed... the SS will win. Modded... close race. Both very nice cars, both have good auto makers behind them... both good street modded cars... not the little Hondas you see roll around with the hupcabs off, differnt side moldings... a muffler can the size of a ******* watermelon, and a wing so big, I swear if they COULD get up to our speed... theyd probably take off like a plane.

Seriously I really hate it when people boast about their cars. I used to have a POS 99 cougar that ran 17's. I never said my car was fast, even to people I knew I could beat.

Now I have a 14 second cobalt SS. I STILL don't tell people my car is fast.

There will always be a car you will beat, you can't insult that car's entire community by saying it is a joke. Why is it a joke? To me a cobalt ss is more of a joke than a MSP.

Agreed, Let's let it DIE. They are both very cool cars that 95% of the peeps would be happy to own, We just so happen to represent the 5% with nice, limited and unusual cars.

I will agree that Stock to Stock if traction was not a factor, it would be one or the other. Becasue the SS is only now becoming available with an LSD and the Mazdaspeed has had one from the start, the Stock Mazdaspeed will OWN the Stock SS from a launch. End of Story. We don't race from a roll, we race stoped.

Can we at least agree on this?

Now, I believe my original post was totally Blown Out Of Proprtion Here. I was simply saying that...

I was one Mazda that you (The Originator Of The Thread) would never be beating,

I never said that you didn't beat the MSP that you raced or that it was impossible.

Peace!

those MSP are amazing dont they only have 6.5 PSI of boost from factory? dman with 20 PSI youd be a hell alot faster (but i herd the engines go quick is that true?)
