me vs stang

well i had a lil run in with a stang this saturday. me and tha girl were coming back from tha george lopez show, we came to a red light. and a black stang pulled up next to me and was staring at tha car. at green we took off, i took him from tha dig. went through first gear and second had a half car on him. goin into third i missed it and he gained on me. when i finally put it in third i pulled half a car again and into fourth i gained alil more, he was at my rear wheel. at 80 i let off tha gas due to a red light. at the light the driver and passanger were staring their faces were pricless

Just a question, you were in 4th at 80? grats on the win though. For some reason mustangs always think they are fast because they are mustangs.

He has a 2.2. 80mph is a little before redline in 3rd, so it makes sense.

my 2.2 maxs out 3rd around 86-88, could have beat him a little better and yeah, my friends brother has an '02 mustang and thinks its real fast.. but its not. you're absolutely right that mustang owners think their cars are fast just bc they're mustangs

most mustangs are pretty fast from 99 and up, the v8 ones. Also some older cobra's too.

Yeah cobra's (especially 1999 and up) are quick as hell and the GT's have alot of potential as well but my god do the v6's outnumber them by 384 times. Seriously at my highschool of 2000 there are actually about 50 mustangs here and only 2 of them are GT's, no cobras. 1 of the GT's is 99+.

My bad...for some reason I always think its the SS/SC racing when i come to the war stories haha. I knew somethin was up.

Probably not the best of driving on the Mustang's part if you took him out of the hole and won despite missing a gear, but nice run anyway. Definitely some Mustang guys that think their car is faster than it really is... but that goes for some people on this site as well... and any other car for that matter.

It's called Honda Syndrome
This would NOT have happened against a new v6 mustang, but way to surprise the crap out of him.
All the v6 mustangs in my area won't even look twice at me with the SS badges on the side. I think they've been spanked by a few SS/SCs and they don't realize I have the 2.4l.

Well, it shouldn't have happened against a 5-speed 99-04, either... maybe an auto. Not that either would win every time, but a well-driven 5-speed 99-04 shouldn't get pulled out of the hole or lose if a stock-ish 2.2 misshifts. Of course, anything can happen on the street, however.

Interesting... clearly they aren't too knowledgable about the competition.
