Went cruising down the ol' Westheimer last night to see if anyone went crusing around still...it was fun to say the least. It was pretty late...passed midnight.

1. Within 5 minutes of getting off I-45 onto Westheimer I see a red 94 viper w/ a huge wing pacing a lotus elise. A few lights down they went zipping through traffic and I wasn't about to go chasing them in traffic to watch so I dunno who won.

2. Stopped at a gas station to get gas and a 70 nova pulled up, silver w/ blue stripes, roll cage, hood had a huge "blower intake" mounted on it. He was revving up talking to some biker boys. He revved up a few times and it really didn't seem like a dragster, sounded like it had a mild cam...he didn't even have longtube headers. The rear end was stock w/ smaller sized slicks, it wasn't tubbed. After inspection...I came to the conclusion this car was still under construction lol.

3. As we left the gas station a convertible eclipse GS-T and a spankin new civic Si came blazing by, the GS-T had about 2 cars on the Si. My buddy (04 Stg 2 SRT-4) and I decided to speed up a little bit to watch. I also noticed that the nova was right behind us. By coincidence we ended up right behind the Si and the GS-T at the light, with the nova behind me and an 05-06 silver Viper RT/10 convertible with a rich lookin guy and a hott chick riding shotgun behind my buddies SRT-4. Light turned green the Si took off, the GS-T didn't go and the Nova was pacing my butt, lunging on the gas every other second. The Viper wanted to play, got next to the Nova, dropped the hammer @ about 45mph and left us all in a nice spray of smoke (literally). The Nova did nothing.

4. The light turned red up ahead and now our little group consisted of: Me, my friends SRT-4, the Nova, GS-T, Civic Si and a guy on a GSXR-750. The light turned green and the Gixxxer took off and was about two cars in front, the Nova in the far left lane revved up at him and floored it...not impressive...w/ the Nova a car in front already the GSXR pulled past him with ease, and then simply got in front of the Nova...slowed down, pulled a wheelie and left us all. The Si and GS-T started going at it again, by the time I looked over from the Nova race, the Si and GS-T were pretty far up there.

5. Hit another light a few minutes later, this time I'm next to the Si, GS-T is behind him, Manny (SRT-4) is in the lane to my left, and the RT/10 viper is back behind Manny, And the Nova is in far left lane. Light turns green, no one goes from a dig, I'm yelling at my g/f to turn the camera on, when the Si takes off...right in the SS/SC sweet spot of 40mph, he's about a car ahead, i start pulling like mad but there is a light up ahead and traffic in the distance so I back out only after a few seconds. He never lets off goes through the light, and weaves like a mad man through traffic way up ahead.

6. Things start calming down and the group gets larger as we reach the outskirts of the area into a low development, almost no traffic area, w/ four or five lanes. A white STi, RSX-S, GTI, LT1 z28, and WRX have now joined the group. The Si purposely drove slow so he could re-join the group behind him, which with his maniacal driving took about 5 minutes.

7. We a hit light. We've passed 610, now were on the outskirts where there is hardly anything but straight 4-5 lane road and lots of lights. No traffic. I'm in the center lane, nova on the left, Manny behind me, GS-T to my right, Si on the far right. Light turns green, Nova pulls about a car on all of us, with me 2nd, GS-T 3rd and Si fourth. We're laughing at the Nova and I get a little cocky and get next to him. He lunges foward a few times, I take the bait, hammer it in 2nd @ 45ish mph and stay side by side with him pulling maybe an inch lol. I slow down and so does he, his passenger leans out the window and says "we were only toying with you, half throttle." I just laughed and got behind him to do a U-turn.

8. Almost everyone else keeps going, the GS-T, Si, and STi, follow me and Manny. The STi comes flying past us up to a light. We all know what he's up to lol. I'm in the center lane, he's to my left, Manny is to my right, GS-T is on the far right lane. Light turns green the STi takes off, has about 2 cars on everyone, Manny has about a car on me, the GS-T is about four cars behind, and the Si comes flying up as we slow down. The guy in the Si gets next to me and asks if I have a turbo , I tell him it's supercharged and he says "Stock???" in disbelief. He asks what I'm pushing and I say probably around 280 hp (crank hp) trying for 300 evntually or something like that. I tell him his car is nice and says the same to me, takes off and goes weaving through traffic again.

9. Now the fun part, I've never raced an STi before tonight and wanted to see how bad I would get killed from a roll so I get next to him and give him the thumbs up and speed up a little bit to 40 again. He takes the bait...only a little too aggressively and decides to floor it as I sped up, I hear his turbo and I drop down into 2nd- he's moving already and by the time I'm WOT he has about a car on me, it's useless to try and reel him in so I shut down. I try again to get him to go, but every time I speed up he speeds up too, so there is about a car length difference. I figured what the heck and slow down to around 20mph, Manny comes flying past us as he sends another SRT-4 to his grave. The STi sees me slowing down and also slows down but...still he stays a car ahead of me. I give up, double clutch and rev match into 1st, and go WOT. There's a nice scream of Eaton and tire smoke and the STi goes WOT. I slam 2nd gear and am side by side w/ him. We hit 3rd gear and he starts to pull on me slightly. I shut down with him about half a car in front. We get to the light, it's an older guy to my surprise, we exchange props and I ask him what his mods are. He says "Cobb AP, and turbo back exhaust." Not sure what AP stands for, and didn't get the chance to ask..he honks his horn and does a U-turn.

10. Things die down, the GS-T and Si pull off to various gas stations. Random LS1's come flying past us every other minute. We get to another light and I decide to mess around with Manny. He just fixed a huuuuge boost leak that he just found on Friday...apparently it's always been there, and he's pushing 18psi to redline w/ it fixed. I've waxed him before..but I have my doubts now, especially after the STi run. Sure enough the light turns green and he pulls a good car length on me after 2nd gear. Stage 2 w/ toys and a downpipe....it'll be nasty when he gets exhaust.

11. We're about 5 minutes to I-45 when I look in my rearview mirror to see some familiar looking Headlights and fog lights. It's an SS. He gets beside me, 06 non- G85 w/ the new blue color. Nice color, he's got dealership plates on. I give him the thumbs up and he....revvs up at me? lol, I let him hear what his blower should sound like and he stays back and makes a U-turn.

Some other cool stuff, we saw some Ferraris cruising around, I saw a total of three SS's including the blue one, there was a silver and red SS going the opposite direction at different times.

It was a blast....I had my camera, but my g/f was whining and didn't want to film....she only filmed the silver viper and the guy in the Si talking to me.

texas sounds like a race track man.... i wish we had that up here in ny, way to many cops around though... it sucks.... to bad she didnt film stuff....

Great night man, don't you just love running into Vipers? I have yet to see a Viper on the road that isn't up for a race anytime day or night. One time I was lucky enough to catch a late 90's Viper RT/10 going at it with a mid 90's Benz SL600. I'm not sure who won, they were going so fast I had no hope of catching up.

 

Yeah I never go down to Westheimer because it's about a 20-30 minute drive...but man that was fun. I'll probably be going down there more often.

damn i wish i woulda seen you guys, i was cruising all around in that exact same area!!! that same night! shame, sounds like you found some fun, all i found was a couple GLI's that were together...

 

That's a lot of action in one night...wish there wasn't so many cops around here in NY.

 

Sounds like you had a lot of fun. Indy has a few spots to "play", but you have to be careful.....Cops will show up for awhile, and then just dissapear.

 

wish San Antonio had that much action.
