Run with RX7

this morning around 230 am driving home from a gathering.. me and my friend decided to race a lil.. he is a 94 RX7 Twin-Turbo R2 edition ..with a downpipe and catback exhaust... we took off from the 3 beeps... I dropped into second and got a half a car length on him, but soon he was catchin up and the front of my car is prolly next to the center of his... by the time I shift into 3rd I start pulling on him again and get my back end prolly close to teh front of his car... but as soon as I come to redline in 3rd the rx7 just speeds past me and gets a couple cars on me and still going... but yea those are very quick cars.. I got to drive one.. but the cobalt SS deffinetly did a great job with it I think

Actually the RX-7 is not really a traditional fast car. Most Mazda cars, are built to handle before they are built to accelerate. A 7 is better suited on a race track, where it would walk all over most sports cars.

Agreed. My dad has a RX8 and it has no low end torque. The rotary engines are better in the high end torque area. But they're still lots of fun to drive..

yea.. the RX7 is a lot faster then the RX8's... I personally don't like the RX8's.. but the RX7 comes with a twin turbo.. and with the very few mods he had, gave him 270 hp to the engine.. and they redline at like 8000 RPM's I got to drive it and the cars screws.. but yea it is deffinetly a better handling car.. but if you put a little work into an RX7 you will be killing lots of cars... my same friend with the RX7 raced a cobra the other night.. with an in experienced driver to.,.. and I taught my friend how to take off better becasue he didnt know I gues when he was racing me.. but he beat the cobra every time.. it was taped so Ill try to get the video when I get a hold of the guy with the camera.. just look for videos online... you will see RX7's killing almost every car... but I hope GM comes out with performance packacges like Dodge has Stage 123 for the SRT4.. I really want to be able to beat the RX7 one day ... before he starts modding the hell out of his

Sounds like he was a victim of turbo lag. I'm not familiar with the Mazda engine, but I know in the Supra, alot of guys get rid of the twin turbo and go to one big turbo.

I’d like to clarify your statement a bit, the Rensis (RX-8 Engine) is significantly more powerful than the 7’s, when naturally aspirated. If Mazda were to eventually take the risk and turbo charge the 8, it would probably be the faster car. I say take the risk, because the RX-7 bankrupt Mazda to the point that Ford had to save the company. The rotary engine requires frequent tuning, and constant attention when turbo charged, lest you turn the engine into a keg-sized paperweight.

That means MORE turbo lag, but more power.

yea twin-turbos usually have less power but less lag.. I could be wrong btu I heard on twin turbos the point of one turbo is to prevent lag and the otehr to give the power

Twin turbos do not usually have less power. The point of a twin turbo set up is to give you more torque down low, and ton of horses up top. In most applications, depending on the engine, most turbo units will give you one but not both.

In the RX-7, as with all rotary engines, torque is a real issue. Therefore it is vital that when you add FI you make sure you it give you low end power. Since the RX-7 was meant to compete with Porsches they also need to give it a good top end, so they decided to go with the TT.

Oh I know. I was just giving him info to relay to his buddy to gain more power. I wasn't suggesting that a bigger turbo will have less lag.

You mean R1 but good story, Good death.
I raced a Silver BPU Rx-7 Auto w/15psi and had him all the way to 120> But those autos are so weak. But everyone was like that saturn just beat an RX7 turbo.......... i was like it really wasnt that fast, Honestly.
they were like your just being cocky, those things are gods . I had to break it to them all that it was auto. But i still got props from em all.

if your friend has a 93 RX7 then it is the R1.. the R1 was only for 1993 and then for 94 and 95 it was the R2 which basically just fixed any mistakes, problems, or things they thought you be different becasue they didnt like the way it was in the R1 but ye amy friend has teh 1994 RX7 TT 5spd s so its the R2 model... BTW me and the RX7 ran against a modded GTP the other night around the same time.. it has an intake, a chip, a smaller pulley, <I think it had liek 11lbs of boost), and maby something else but I think that is it, anyways I wasnt really racing the RX7 , he was pretty much in front right away racing against a Cobra and I seemed to beat the GTP with no problem everytime, I thought he was going to smoek me from teh times he said he had and the amount of HP , but he might have just been guesing, he also has another person in teh car a tool set, a full size tire, and a system, so I deffinetly had a weight advantage over him.. it was recorded Ill try to get it online if I find the kid with the camera
