rx-8 is a original race car you have to remember...... now they have insane handeling, but even in a straight line they are faster, hands down.....

They are not faster than the Cobalt SS S/C in the 1/4 mi. Seriously where are you getting your info from? The RX-8 is lacking serious torque. Balt SS S/C FTW!!1!1

as i said the 2004 did a 14.4 and the 05 is lighter and has more torque, im not trying to bash the balts but for god's sake some people act like the cobalt is the fastest car out there, which everyone knows that is not true, yes it is fast, but some other cars are faster believe it or not..

there is a thread on here that lists the 1.4 mile times of cars, and the cobalt was 14.8 and the rx-8 auto was 14.6 not add 60 hp fromm the auto to the 6-speed, and the 05 is lighter its runs at least a 13.4

I don't think anyone here thinks their SS/SC is the fastest car ever. In fact, I realize fairly well I have a 14-second car and that any serious sports car is generally quicker. What I do realize, however, is that no RX-8 (stock) is doing low 13's. I wish I had an RX-8, and I don't think anyone here is bashing them, but I know a few people with RX-8s and man, they aren't low 13-second cars. Car and driver clocked the Rx-8 manual at a 14.4 1/4 mile. But whetever, this thread is very quickly becomming useless and annoying.

I would love to see a stock RX-8 do low 13's. Even get into the 13's at that. I don't care what year.

RX-8 Poor straightline performance, it's a twisties car, not a straight line track car. Lets compare figures with my slip and an 04 RX-8 Grand Touring

By the way it has it's fair share of problems, read review

http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews.../problems.html

Real impressive time slips, he even cut a 2.3 60'fter like I did but only got a low 15. This was when they broke them in and took them to the track before they were released to the public.

Me = Intake, Muffer swap/mandrel bent 2.5 piping My car out of the box is maybe a mid 14 (stock). Im car #208 and the one next to me #209 is another SS that was stock.

Tell me again. an RX-8 is a straightline car??

For what it's worth, *both* the 04 and 05 are listed at the same 3029 lb, with the same 3810 GVWR. They *both* have the same 197 hp (auto) or 238 hp (manual) (41hp difference, by the way, not 60)

Now, if you're going to tell me that a 197 hp, 3029lb car with a 4-spd auto is going to run 14.6 in the 1/4, something's wrong, or it's racing down a steep hill.

The only "special" version of the 2005 is Shinka Edition, which in a nutshell comes with every option available, plus a couple suspension mods. Still the same engine, though...

The car actually gained 16lb in '06, and the stick version lost 6 hp due to the new ratings.

Correct, the Rx8 has never gotten a HP bump in any year. The only two "trim" levels that effect power are the transmission option. The GT model doesn't go any faster than the base model.

That being said a good driver in a manual Rx8 could probably beat a bad driver in a SS/SC.

Without a doubt. Gotta appreciate the RX-8 for what it is...a 4-seat go-kart.

I am a rotary nut!!!! i have a 93 rx-7 twin turbo!!! HAd and RX-8... its no way in comparision to my 7. its slow.. you can take one. i will say the best thing about thisw car is the 9000 rpm rev.... its bonerific! even with a greddy turbo, like i had it wasnt anything fast.. i was glad to get rid of it. it seems like a small car, but i actually fit better in it than in my ss/sc when i had one. im 6'1 its a funtrack car and if u wanna drift.. save ur money for anotyher car.. it cant drift for ****. ive tried, and i know how. Its great for motocross... its a 50-50 weight. so that means the front of the car weighs exactly the same as the back.

i raced an rx-8 but it was auto....i murdered him, eased off, and murdered him for a second time all in one race lol....raced a couple of times, and even with shitty launches i killed him....no comparison
the rx-8 in stick is quick IF you pop the clutch at like 6grand...its like the lotus elise, it can only get the numbers u see IF you pop the clutch like an animal, and most people dont do that on the streets
i still think in stick it wouldnt be close...at least 4 or 5 car lengths (an underestimate)

The last RX8 I saw at the track was running 10.1-10.3 in the 1/8th... With only an intake I was running 9.9.

Seems to me that they're more of a match for the 2.4 than the SS/SC.

Has anybody who claims that the RX8 is faster than a SS/SC driven both cars? The RX8 is better at straights than it is road. The SS/SC is better than the RX8 at both when both cars are stock. I've driven both and that is what made me decide to go with the SS/SC. The RX8 has poor acceleration and terrible cornering habits. And drove both down the same stretch of road. Just like a Toyota you can feel a Mazda lean out of the corners. And 268 is not stock on an RX8. I know, I used to sell for Mazda.

I used to own an rx-8, i still have my 93rx7. Rx-8 only has poor acceleration is because it has no torque. and what the hell man!! terrible cornering habbits? this car is the best car to turn with.
