SC vs Cayman S

played w/ a new yellow CAYMAN S yesterday morning 6 am (highway was empty).... when I got on the highway he was doing about 110-120 mph when he went past me as I was doing 75-80 mph. I toyed with him in the 110-120 mph range for about 3-5 miles .... I guess he got tired of me using him as a cop shield (I don't stay behind or close... I stay a lane or two over and a car length behind to not freak em out).
He jumps into it at about 110 mph. I shift out of 4th at 140mph, and I kept up w/ him in my SC up to 148 mph! I was counting down the MPH (146,147,148) when I look up and he had slammed his brakes soooo hard it was like he dropped an anchor out of his car... I'm figuring COP .... OMG , I'm ***ked!!! so, I hit my brakes and went flying past him like he wasn't even a part of this story. As he pulled back up on me after the braking incident... I could see him staring at the SC trying to figure out what kind of car it was....
He ducks off the highway at the oasis and I just off the next exit to play safe....

overall, he did not pull me that bad for what the CAYMAN S can do or for what the price tag demands...
why didn't he enter the stratosphere and go into the 160-170's to teach me a lesson? I look at it this way, anything over 140 mph is really useless... you need too much open room to even get there. Thats why I feel my SC does not need anymore power to play on the highway!

It was fun, but I WILL NOT BE GOING ANYWHERE ABOVE 140 mph AGAIN... I realized at 148 the freakin car did not really want to stop!! In an emergency .... I'd be up someones butt

The Cayman S just came out. There is no early 2000's model... the Boxster is probably what you mean Ricky. Those aren't too tough to take on.

Nice to be wingless. When I hit 120 mph that thing is a movin' and a shakin', prolly fly off at 140.....

Been there :-) Good kill!

The Cayman itself is a pig, the S is respectable.

They are just Boxters with hardtops basically.

I look for those because they are relatively easy kills, and you can devalue their midlife crisis in a heartbeat :-)

I agree..........except for the REAL Carrera GT, not the 911 Carrera GT

I thought Caymans were a step up performance wise over the boxster?

+1 the Carrera GT is Sick!!!

the "Gayman S" is fun to race. i did one in when i had my STI a while back. I haven't had a chance to race one in the Cobalt... they usually think we're ricers and don't give us the benefit of the doubt.

The Cayman S is rated at 295hp... will do 0-60 in 5 seconds and tops out at 171MPH (Porsche's website).

If you hung with him... he was just teasing you.

I somehow doubt the SRT-8 Cherokee rides anything like the Cayman.

Cayman S... 0-60 in 5.1 1/4mile in 13.2
SRT-8... 0-60 in 5.2 (thanks to AWD) 1/4 mile in 13.49
(info from edumnds.com)

They're close indeed... and as much as I hate paper racing I don't think the Jeep is good enough to best the Cayman S. Looks like the S walks hard in the top end.

I beat the SRT-8 Cherokee, and got a $448 ticket in process. It was from 45mph - 135ish.

I have also raced and beat 3 other SRT-8's. 2 300's, and 1 Charger. Found out that the Cherokee was faster! Still haven't raced the SRT-8 Magnum, but I bet that one is slower than them all.

The properly modded cobalt can beat a Cayman, especially from the Roll.

I've traditionally hated the looks of Porsches (They all look like frogs to me!) but I do have to say that I like the look of Caymans, and, of course the Carrera GT. I once saw one sitting in downtown Chicago. People were gathering around the GT just to get a look at the damn thing. Man... If I had $500 Grand sitting around!

he had plenty of time to be a man and run.... sometimes the driver CANNOT match the skills of the car. why go to the 145+mph range and give?

so if I got a 1-2 second jump on him.... he would be reeling me in and might be able to match me....
I by no means out ran him... when we went into the 120's -140's he was pulling on me ever so slightly
but, he by far did not blow me away or outrun me...

AUTOMOBILE MAGAZINE ONLINE: 2006 Porsche Cayman S
Base price: $59,695
Engine: 3.4 L H-6, 295hp, 255 lb-ft
Drive: Rear-wheel
0-60 mph: 5.1 sec (est.)
0-100 mph: 12.0 sec (est.)
1/4-mile: 13.7 sec @ 105 mph (est.)
Top speed: 171 mph

yes he has top end .... but I figure I'm pushing at least 250 hp...and for $40K less than I don't have I am content with the outcome of that encounter

I'm guessing there is either enough down force on it to hold it down or the air going over the car doesn't come back down to make it bounce...either way, it's not a problem at that speed.

Dont be suprised by him haning with a Cayman S. Sometimes that **** happens if your not in the right gear you can lose. Its like the LS1 GTO, it has 350 hp and 360 ft lbs and stage 2 cobys with very few mods can walk them. Its just how it is.

If you hung witht eh Cayman man more power to you

Look at the 1/4 Mile time. 13.7secs for the Cayman S , right.

Some of us could romp on one from a roll if that were the case, and probably put a couple cars on it. And to launch a porsche to the 5 sec 0-60 you have to actually LAUNCH it. A normal driver will not be able to even replicate that 5 sec response. Same goes for Sti's and most other cars.

Try launching your cobalt.........you'll break or slip something.

The better indicator of a car's capability in the average drivers hands is the 5-60mph test, where the launch is irrelavent.
