score one for the ss/na's bitches!
ok lets see here:
I am pretty sure NO ONE here...is arguing. We are getting the others opinions, plain and simple.
I would consider a 3.5 altima borderline "high performance family car". It handles nice, good braking, good acceleration...but it's heavy..not made for a track...no modifications were done at the factory to make it a car that is to be taken to the track...so it is borderline...a car that performs high..but wasn't built with track application in mind. The SS/SC was designed for track racing...it was developed by GM with the track in mind. I watched a show on the speed channel about it...I forgot how many goobs of money GM spent testing the SS/SC at the track...it was crazy. Not to mention it took the nurburgring lap record away from the skyline.
Couldn't have said it better myself!

Come on dude, lap record from the skyline. Me thinks you are confusing the Z06 with the Skyline.
what part of my post says ANYTHING about 14 seconds?
your applying YOUR criteria to MY explaination?
dude what the ****?
Does an altima 3.5 have UPGRADED PERFORMANCE INSPIRED Seating, Transmission, Suspension, engine etc?
Some Kia's have all those qualities are they high performence cars??
show me a kia with upgraded race inspired engine, transmission/shifter, seating, suspension, aerodynamics, from the factory.....
im not doubting you....im just curious to see it.
just because its "kia" doesnt mean it cant be high performance man.

Since when did the the tranny/shifter and engine in the SS/SC become race inspired??
What about this??? http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/fe...art_version_r/ it has all those things you said so it must mean high performence, up until it actually has to perform... http://youtube.com/watch?v=f5X2YBnV1rE
here is some infor straight from GM:
The 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged Coupe is the high-performance model in the Cobalt family of coupes and sedans that will debut in the fourth quarter of 2004. The Cobalt SS Supercharged builds upon the expressive design and dynamic driving experience of the Cobalt Coupe and Coupe SS. The Cobalt SS Supercharged Coupe was developed to appeal to the tuner enthusiast, said Pete Langenhorst, Chevrolet Cobalt marketing director. We engineered from the very beginning all the key components to deliver an exciting drivers high performance sport coupe straight from the factory.
High-Performance Powertrain
The Cobalt SS Supercharged Coupe features a race-inspired Ecotec 2.0-liter supercharged four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission. Cobalt benefited from GM Racings successful Ecotec-powered cars competing in the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Racing Series with significant learnings transferred during the development of the Cobalt.
The accelerator pedal was redesigned to enable heel-and-toe driving to improve driver feedback and response.
Pretty sad when even the gas pedal is redesigned for racing..but ...not high performance
and I will try to find the show that I watched...at least the name of it so you can youtube it or something.

Now pedal configuration (moving the go-pedal a half inch closer to the brake pedal) makes the difference between high performence?? I mean all that thought into the pedals and they put in a JUNK clutch. Maybe its just me, but I would rather have a clutch that could handle the stock power and then some, then pedals that "improved driver feedback and response."
I completely agree the SS/SC is a high-performence COBALT, but high performence car??? Not to me.

Thanks for all the conversation and feedback shake. Take er easy.

second and most important, I dont see anything on that page about suspension engine or transmission, I see some rubber that MIGHT be decent....and maybe a short shifter....
but nothing there that would make that vehicle qualify as "high performance" to me......its been hotted up certainly.....but nothing more than that.
now to the video.
first off that **** was funny, and I gotta say....those little suckers held up pretty well considering what they are......
You also have to realise that those little pups have been built in such a way to allow people a taste of high performance with a lower pricetag.....
and I dont see how you can dissagree, those things ripped around that track pretty damn well for what they are.
For me? I call that little thing high performance.
You have to realise that you cant just a subjective thing like "high performance" to every other car, because high performance isnt a set level.....high performance, By definition, would be a level of performance that is HIGHER than its comparable counterparts.
Compare that to its base model? you cant call it anything BUT high performance model.
this stuff is extremely subjective, and i highly doubt any 2 people will truely agree on it when there are so many interpretations.
So ill just leave it at that.
first off thats a concept vehicle...and we both know how much can change from concept art to production (if it even makes it)

That car is being produced and looks just like it minus the wheels.
You are arguing high performence models, I am arguing about high performence cars. In the grand scheme of high performence cars, I don't consider the SS/SC a high performence car. And I said I barely consider my STI and EVOs high performence cars, only because of there prowess on a course. Now if you want you can argue if the SS/SC is a high performence FWD car, that I will agree with, but that is limiting it to FWD, not all cars.
Okay Guys, to settle the original arguement, I have a video that proves the 2.4L can beat an unsupecting SS Supercharged.

Yes that's me in the Driver's Seat! HAHA

Is that video for real? Because that was more than I would expect from the 2.4L in comparison to the ss/sc. You weren't even pulling on him after he got the jump on you.
This video looks staged. Either you weren't trying, He has a debadged SS/SC, or he's running serious mods to his 2.4L
Tell us the truth! Don't leave us all in suspense.

We've gotten in a few runs after that in which yes, I've had no problem pulling on his Pursuit... but now you know, it's all about the driver!
I've easily recovered on some eclipses.. haven't tried on a balt.. most balts in this part of town don't do much agressive driving. And generally too much traffic for even a friendly game of gas guzzling.

anyhoo nice vid/kill
only thing stoppin me from getting an actual ss/sc was money... car payments were like 100 more a month or more...
so im just gonna make it look like one and eventually get a catback exhaust and CAI once i get the money.

All of this talk about Accelerating in 5th is just retarded. Anybody ever scan their car while doing a full throttle 5th gear pass from normal speeds (i.e. 45-65)...........not a good idea.
