This Sound Reasonable..? And Auto Question..

Hey guys,

So the other night me and my friend finally did a few runs. His is a 2.2 sedan with a 2.4 intake manifold, GM intake and GM exhaust as his main performance mods. Mine's a 2.4 coupe with a Shift Plus, Injen SRI, ram air hood (forced right onto SRI) and a K&N filter being my current performance mods. We're both auto. We did 3 total runs. The first run he jumped me with a false start. We were rolling at like 60 already. His caught the gear well and took off, but I caught up to him mid-way through 4th.. Then passed him shortly there after. Then the next two were even starts and I beat him with no trouble at all. Do these situations seem to make sense? His hp is probably still a bit lower than mine, but those mods on a 2.2 will probably help alot. Same with mine, but until I get the GMPP exhaust this saturday, the exhaust is still choking it a tad. Should I have smoked him even easier, or are these pretty fair runs?

Also, when I launch initially.. I use the L gear if I want to really cruise. What is a good RPM to shift to I at? Redline, shy of redline? I have no idea. I just kinda bump it up when it feels right.. And when I use my ShiftPlus, I squeal 1-2 if I have it in Stage 2 and go L-I. Should I do this or just keep it in I and let it do it's thing?

Thanks!

im sure it will be just as fast if you leave it in DRIVE when racing your friend.
and your 2.4L has more HP and more TQ then the 2.2l so its only normal that your quicker.

I just like using the lower gears because then I have control over the car instead of it doing whatever. And if you shift into I and punch it on the highway it automatically downshifts instead of the auto lag..

His manifold and exhaust made him creep up on you.

But still, with you having at least an intake I would had thought it would have been way worse.

Shows the 2.2 can keep up with just a few simple mods.

Once you get your exhaust it will lengthen the gap between you two. His intake manifold helps a LOT though.

he never creeped on the 2.4. The 2.2 jumped the first race and the 2.4 creeped back up and passed. Then the next 2 races he beat him no problem both times

BTW on the even start races, exacly how much did u beat him?

I wouldn't say that I totally wiped him out by 30 cars or anything, but I advanced no problem, and held a steady car or two on him until 110 where I cut out.. I think that's about the length.. The 2.2 held up very well, but results are results..

From a dig or from 1-25mph roll , start in the L, and right before 2nd ends, go into I, and right before 3rd ends, D. From a 25-40mph roll, start in I, and go to D before 3rd ends. And anything above 40mph, no reason to downshift, cause the TC shouldn't even cut out your power. This is what I was told when I first joined the forum so I've been using this method =]

Cool man. I still like to go to I if I'm on the highway and I need instant power, so the lag isn't there, but the rest sounds good. I didn't know L did 1st and 2nd???

yea it should shift on its own if it revs to high enough for a long enough time(few seconds).
