So I'm sittin at the light around 8:00 last night on my way to dinner... not too much goin on. I look over at this new Jetta rollin up beside me... older driver so I figure nothin special. Light goes green and we both pull off like any normal drivers would. At about 30 MPH I notice this guy is still hangin with me (wasn't really payin too much attention to the speedometer at this point) and I guess we got the same idea at the same time GO FOR IT!

We both punched it. As we hit about 60 he nosed up on me a bit... I'm scannin the road ahead... no traffic for a mile or more and I'm wonderin how long this is gonna go on. At 70 I finally start to nose on him... he shuts down at 80ish with his front tires by my passenger door. He drops in behind me and we both coast down to 50 or so... still no traffic. I hop over into the far right lane and give him the friendly nod and thumbs up for a nice run as he goes by... then I notice the badging on his trunk 2.0T.

Sittin at home this afternoon I looked it up... factory rated at 200 and 207. Pretty darn serious for a little unassuming VW 4 door. First time I've had a serious run in about a month, so I figured I'd post it up for everyone. I don't really feel that the 2.4 auto's strength lies in roll racing as I was short two gears on this guy instead of the normal one gear on most other cars... but she did pretty well in my book.

they weigh alot for such small cars, and there prob 170whp

The one thing i noticed about GTI,and GLI's is when moddified they become serious tq monsters i raced a stage 2 turbo chipped , and every bolt on possible he beat my by 5 cars i raced a GLI with Intake, exhaust, downpipe, uppipe, chip and beat him by 2 cars, (had to play catch up because form a 40 mph roll he would jump a car instantly from the tq he had (220 whp and 275 tq)

 

Hehe.... I neglected to mention that I had a passenger and a trunk full of clothes from my appartment... and that he was the sole occupant of his car.

 

Yeah, car and driver ripped on the Jetta GLI 2.0T a bit in their review. It was no faster then the older 1.8T Jetta because it is heavy as hell.

I had an Audi A4 2.0T Quattro try to roll race me and I got him by about a car length (30ish to about 70ish).

Nice engines, just attached to heavy heavy cars

umm....since when did vw come out with a 2.0T Jetta? it's either the 2.0 n/a, 1.8T, or the VR6. The 2.0T motor won't come out until the MK V's come out some time next year in the US. The only way it was a 2.0T was if it was a custom job. Chances are he just had the 2.0 badging and shoved a T next to it. No offense man, but a 2.0T Jetta would rip on 2.4 SS. He'd give a SS S/C a run for their money too.

And if it was a custom 2.0T job, then it was probably a lot faster than 200hp. My buddy had a MKii gti w/ a 2.0 aba motor with a T3 on it and he put down over 300whp. Yea...it was fast.

2.0T Jetta's are on the road, and no, they are not that fast, a SS S/C qould kill it.

 

I would really like to see these 2.0T's. Are they in the MK IV Jetta's? (99-04) or the MK V's (05 up)?? I thought VW was going to introduce the 2.0T motor when the MK V GTI's come out. They are supposed to have like 280hp from the factory!

I have no idea where you heard that from, but the 2.0T Jetta (Mk V) and MK V Golf's are rate at 197HP and 207lb-ft.

2006 GTI = 0-60 in 6.0 and the 1/4 mile in 14.7

2006 Jetta GLI = 0-60 in 7.1 and the 1/4 mile in 15.5

just get a chip and these cars ( 2.0t) will see 280 Tq and 250 HP

the only thing my engine has on the 2.0t is the 20v head
just for the record my 03 gti is weighing in at 2750 the new ones cant be much heavier then that

Car and Driver had it listed as 3178lbs Thats a big weight gain.

 

once chiped they r 252hp/303lb-ft

 

id could probably still take one of those chipped as it sits now.....the weight is its biggest enemy.

 

an a6 2.7t chiiped goes from 250 to 350 for like $500
