SS S/C vs 88 Iroc-Z
SS S/C vs 88 Iroc-Z
Was at the car show again this week.
One of my fellow Team Downshift members Kenny showed up in his 88 Iroc-Z.
I've been itchin to race him for awhile now.
My first Car was a 89 Camaro RS and I absolutley love the body style.
So I talk him into a run.
He has a 305 V8 in it which I belive someone told me it had cam work done to it.
We hit it from a dig and I pulled 2 lengths easy on him. He pulls up on me a length and half are so When I shifted into 2nd but after that I just started to walk him.
We talked afterwords and he says if he didn't spin the tires on takeoff it would've been a dead even match.
So will set another race up later.

Thats funny because my 1990 305 IROC ran mid 14's all day long 100% stock.
A 1988 Iroc had one of two engines the rare but worthless 305TBI and the common 305 TPI. The TPI was rated at 195HP/295FtLbs and the TBI was 170HP/255FtLbs.
A G92 equipped 305TPI had 235HP/325FtLbs, they ran right with the 350TPI since they were a M5 only car.

True,
I agree that the 305's were dog motors but like I said he's had work done to it.
The only one I'm aware of his some cam work but I belive other stuff as well. Other wise I would of had more than 2 on him. More like 4 to 5.
And if he didn't spin I agree it would of been dead even.

There really isn'r such a thing as cam work, it either had a different cam or didn't.
And also keep in mind a stock 1985-1988 305TPI non-G85 will run a low 15 second 1/4, that was decent performance back then. The G92 305TPI and 350 TPI is still pretty decent running low 14's.
