Chevy is notorious for underateing hp on their cars.....just look at the 60s....and today as a matter of fact, does the ss/sc really have 205hp factory?????

there was a 315 package to to the SS in 96-97
not all the SS's had the handling package either. my ss came equipt with the SLP TOTL, oil cooler, level 2 suspension, and a few other doo dads but even the 96's didnt say Z28/SS on the outside, only a few test pilot cars from SLP said that on the outside. the 96-97 Z28 was rated at 285 like stated by Eddie. but technicaly you could call any 96-97 SS a Z28/SS, i know mine says it on the air box
but i just call it an SS. now most of the lt1 firehawks you see are 315 hp but those are more rare than the SS's. now if you run across a 97 SS hard top with the orange stripes white interior ect, look in the back left corner for a orange and white badge that reads 330
those are WWWAAYYYYY under rated 
but reguardless the LT1 sounds dead sexy

trust me come to my house i can show your a LS1 that would make my car sound like a ***** cat
my dad has a stroked, ATI F1 procharged 02 LE SS that just put down 689 RWHP@5500 RPM, his car is good to 6900 but the air temp jumped up 100 degrees at 5500 rpm so he shut down, he has bigger intercoolers on the way so he can get the car tuned better, this was on a mustang dyno at EPP in illinois or where ever it is, and that SS isnt my only toy, i have a 95 Z28 that im trying to get into a solid 10 this year. oh my pops also has a 78 Z28 that put down 725 rwhp N/A through its stock exhaust
one of my best friends had a 800plus rwhp 2.4 KB cobra till he lost controll of it in the rain, now he has a 383 92 fox body on a 250 shot, another very close friend has a gutted tubbed chevy 2 thats certified to 8 seconds, trust me i know fast
oh and the firehawks get close to the same stuff as the SS's do
but im not saying in any way that what you have at home is junk im just saying im around very fast cars almost every day.
