I guess its not really a technical question. More of a 'how do I go without blowing up my car' question.

I've used my car as a DD until I found this site lol.

I understand.

Doing WOT pulls in a car will eventually cause enough stress in the long term for failure.

This biggest thing about not blowing your car is to make sure it's in great working condition all of the time. If you are going to modify your car you also want to find a way to monitor temps and such.

Expect failure, but minimize risk.

If you plan to change the tune yourself, or plan on going turbo/larger supercharger getting a wideband to watch your air/fuel ratios is one of the main things to get. If your car leans out too much, your engine goes pop.

I did a 2nd gear pull at a 40 roll and destroyed a 2013 Ford Focus ST! I salute you, sir!

ALSO: How do we do against other DSM's like Laser RS's, Eclipse GSX's, and Talon TSi's? Can the Cobalt hold its own against AWD Turbo 4 cylinders?

depends on how built they are, but most awd 90's dsm's are still high 14 low 15 second cars to start out with. They will probably pull you off the line and you will walk past at the top of 2nd. From a roll, you're going to walk away.
