Top End

So I raced a friend of mine in a 94 Z28 and beat him by about three cars up until my top end gave out and he kept going I really couldn't do over 145 with mods listed, and he could do into 150's so my question is would exhaust help my top end like custom 3" catback would that help my top end noticably?

Some but probably not noticably, and 4 cylinder cars are not really known for top end, at least compared to 8 cylinders.

If you dont know if your winning/losing by the time you reach that kind of speed you shouldnt be racing at all. 0-100 should give you more then enough time to decide.

0-100 in a lot of cars is just after the 1/8th mile, 150 is pushing it, but usually you want to go to top of 4th gear or so.

Just another good example of how power and weight effect acceleration and top speed. Weight has very little effect on the top speed of a car, more on how long it takes to get there. The Camaro has more power and is more aerodynamic than the Cobalt. Even if it does weigh several hundred pounds more, it's going to pull away eventually.

To sum it up - an exhaust is not going to change the outcome you just described.

To answer the original posters question, you'll experience a top end gain BUT this will just effect your low end power since you'll be taking longer to build exhaust velocity. It's not really a good idea to go that big in my opinion, even though some have.

2.5" is plenty.

And I agree with everyone else, if you're not winning by like 100-110, then you're not going to win.
