wrx = dissapointed

first off let me say

just got finished modding my airbox ---- i chopped off the entire airbox so now i just have the tube and a filter ---- car's intake is pretty loud now.. right after i pulled out of the garage to go give it a test run, i ran into a wrx with a fart can so big it would make jaun valdez jealous.

he revved at light and me knowing i would lose the launch i just took off normally and he took off like a bat out of hell. i caught back up with him and revved a time or two at the next light, but he was waiting on me to take off, so i took off slow again. got up to our sweet spot of 40 when he was beside me and he let me go... next light he took off slow and got to about 30 and i edged him to 40 then he gunned it and i got up on it and walked his ass all the way to 100, jumped in his lane and popped on the brakes. i tried to get him to pull up beside me, but appearently he felt bad or he was pissed off because when i slowed down he slowed down more so he didn't pull up next to me

i wouldn't say that... i just don't go from a dig for multiple reasons...

#1 you break more **** form launching than you could ever dream of from a roll

#2 know the competition... i know an awd launch of a wrx would beat the living **** out of a cobalt launch, so i didn't want to lose

#3 racing is about giving false confidence to your competitor or keeping them totally off gaurd about you or your mind games. once you do get in their head, the race is over.

#4 lead the competition into your arena (ie: my focus on gettin him into doing a 40 roll) and then play them as you can.

call me the captian of the roll racing federation.. i give a **** lol.... but one thing i will always do is make sure the competition is playing on my feild

What exactly are you disappointed about? If you've read the war stories section of this forum you knew that you would win. In fact, I know you’ve read the kills in here, and that the only reason you raced the WRX. I also think it was a little weak of you to avoid a start from the dig, but you seem to be the type whose ego couldn’t handle losing a race. If you’re going to race someone for fun do it in a situation that’s to your advantage, and throw them a bone and race them were their car is good. If your running for cash, well thats a different story.

Now as for calling the WRX a poor victim, I think that’s taking it a bit far. The WRX although not as quick on the top end, is a very capable car. If handling, reliability, and drivability are important to you, it’s a far better choice than the SS. Also, the aftermarket for this car is huge, and for about 2 to 3 g's they will give you a run for your money. Put a little bit more into it, and you can run down STI’s and Mustangs. I know we can go mod for mod, but at no time will the SS have a larger aftermarket than the Imreza, so at some point your going to run into a brick wall.

Please don’t retort with “I bought the SS for top end speed,” because if that’s your goal you also picked the wrong car. A Mustang or a SRT-4 would have been the better choice. Both these cars are faster out of the box, both will/do have a larger aftermarket.

I don’t mean to hate, but the kill’s forum in here is starting to sound like a broken record. It seems like one guy beats a car, and then everyone in here goes out looking for that car. Than the ensuing discussion beats the topic to death, until someone picks on another car they know is beatable.

If you’re not racing for money, than why are you going to avoid the race you can't win. If a guy is going to run you to your strength have the courtesy to run him to his. If your ego can't handle a loss, than driving an SS is not your cup of tea, because MOST sports cars will either run with you or beat you. What are you going to do, run around town looking for cars that you can beat, and avoid those that will hand it to you? Half of the fun of driving is trying to beat someone you shouldn't, by having more skill. Otherwise no one would race, we would all sit at home and compare mag numbers.

Well technically you would still beat a WRX from a DIG. Go to 100 and youll zoom right past him. They trap about 100 at the 1/4 and so do we. But we have the top end. Look at it that way!

If your driving 100 on a road with traffic lights, your a fool, and eventually your going to kill someone.

I have lost to EVO's. I wasn't embarrassed though because I KNOW that evo's are a LOT faster than my car, however when I raced the evo's i have raced, I though i'd do MUCH worse than I did. They still beat my by a pretty big margin but hey that's what the aftermarket is for. Kari, my cars name, yes it has a name, i named it, make fun of me all you want, is pretty quick for a low $20,000 car. I'm pretty impressed with my cobalt ss/sc with only 205hp. I sure hope that the GM staged upgrades and the PSI-FI kit is enough to make us hang with EVO's and STI's. You'll probably need a little more like exhaust and intake but who knows.

If my post bothers you don't read it. If you have a problem with what I say, by all means feel free to argue with me. However, please don't degrade me with statements like "shitty rhetoric." It's not like I came in here and said oh the Cobalt sucks, its the worse car in the world etc... I mearly stated my opinion, which I think is informed, and intelligent.

I just don't understand why you would race a guy, and then come and post about it, when the result was never in doubt. Heck, I blew a 2.5 Nissan Altima off the line, do you guys want to hear about that. I tried to let the driver catch up so I could give them the thumbs up, but they were so pissed about loosing that they turned.

As for beating a WRX, I couldn't care less; I would be shocked if you didn’t. As for you, take a look at your signature that says it all. You’re a fan boy, I shouldn’t be surprised by your response.

You can mark my words, the COBALT is a fantastic car, and it will be even better after the mods start rolling in. The key to making more power in any car now-a-days, is getting your mods tuned. You can throw anything you want on the car, but if the ecu isn’t taking advantage of the new component, you’re probably not going to get any significant gains. In most circumstances you’ll actually lose some power.

Naming your car is perfectly normal, so I would be the last person to laugh at you.

Everybody play nice...

This is war stories... I think a WRX is a decent post to kill.... they cost more.... they have AWD... They topd us in the CD comparo.. YES im still very bitter about that ...

*EDIT* They are a little underpowered though... you can see my dyno #s in my sig... At the place I had mine done they routinely have stock WRXs putting down only 165hp...

When did I hate? Did I say anthing that wasn't true? I'm just pointing out the obvious. How many threads have there been about WRX? Is there anyone on this site who thinks a WRX is going to beat an SS from a roll? The outcome in these circumstances is a fore-gone conclusion.

Around an Auto X course, from a Dig, in the 1/4 mile the WRX is a great kill, but not from a roll. The math is simple. Less horsepower to the wheels, more weight, Cobalt wins. IN the CD comparision I'm pretty sure they mention the WRX's lack of power after you get going, so it didn't rank higher because it could go from 40-100 faster. It ranked higher because its a better all around car. Heck one of the worse performing cars won that comparision becuase it was the "complete package."

As for costing more, well that boils down to the AWD system, and not to something like a massive engine. If the WRX was FWD, it would be a very similar car to the SS in both cost and performance.

I wouldn't be angry, the Impreza has been around for a long time and Subaru has had a long time to refine the car. In time the Cobalt may soon be winning those comparisions.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but it has been established than an Evo is not a lot faster than an SS/SC stock for stock. In fact, you should tie or beat a stock Evo from a roll everytime. Sure, you're gonna get killed from a dig, and they are better in the twisties, but it's not like you're totally outclassed.

Where exactly was this established? I have never seen anyone make the claim that they beat an Evo from a roll? I have seen people say it was close, but most have admitted that they slowly got walked. Furthermore, I have never seen a stock SS trap in the 100’s but I’ve seen quite a few stock EVO’s at 100 and 101.

Perhaps one of the older ones would be a better race, but the newer ones have progressively gotten more power each year. The 6 speed is also a lot faster on the top end due to significantly better gearing.

Not only have several people done it, but when racing from a roll it's usually a matter of simply crunching the numbers. The SS/SC has a superior whp/weight ratio. Better power to weight ratio = better acceleration.

If you guys are beating these cars, you either have factory freaks, the guy your raced has a lemon, or he is a terrible driver.
