Who said anything about an MR?

4 isn't much, but it probably would translate to a car lenght or so. They guys beating up on these EVO's, did they get there Turbo's spooled before you started the race? You have an advantage on a EVO if he can't get his Turbo up all the way since you get the boost almost instantly.
Oh, and while reading the threads I found that one of the guys who said he was beating out his buddies evo also said he keeps in close in the AUTO X course. Take it from someone who has seen many an auto x race, the EVO will kill a SS given equal drivers. I'm not trying to hate but when it comes to actual track driving the EVO is way way way out of the Cobalts league. Conclusion, someones buddy does not know how to drive.
Most turbos will lose from a roll, the turbos have to spool. My friend has a Civic with a turboed GSR motor running 8 lbs. of boost and he flat out said that his car is slow to accelerate from a roll because of the turbo lag. Once spooled look out!
EDIT: it depends on what speed you decide to go at. If the turbo is in running range then you have more of a challenge.

wrx's have no ***** what so ever after 2nd gear when stock. basically, they suck if they are below 3000rpm too, which most WRX's have a hard time shifting into 1st unless they are practically stopped(mine is like this). 2nd gear bog sucks big time.
but it is annoying when people are afraid to lose even when the race is purely for fun, practice, and comparison reasons
this highschool friend of mine wouldnt race my WRX with his modded 350z(intake and headers that i know of) from a stop. it took giving him a car and a half as well as the go to get him to actually race me and a stock evo
it was also partially because he remembered what i did to my celica in highschool and figured i could do way more to a WRX. plus everyone there was going around that night saying i had a stage 3 turbo upgrade
the only way i could get them to believe that i had a stock turbo was to put money on it.

i know that if we had more room, I would have inched past him. I was creeping on him steadily, but we both quit due to going a Little too fast for the streets.

They trap around 93 bone stock in the quarter mile.

How do you explain why SRT4's are so fast then?

Get the facts straight before you go and bash
