And heres my GF's balt with 17s will be lowered in the next week or so.
how much of a drop do you have on your balt?
and for some reason 5 spoke rims look really nice on our balts!

Oh, wait... so 18''s have a bit of a performance drop over 17''s? I don't race or go to tracks and all, it's just for street use. I was hoping to go with 18''s if money permits, but if there's gonna be much of a difference in handling, I'll go back to my previous idea of getting 17''s.

But, man, I sure hoped I could lower my ride a little. But the car's already lower than what my grandmother'd like, so I can't :\ Anymore and she won't be able to get in and out that easily.

But damn, what a difference lowering springs make.

The "performance" difference is minimal, if any. Maybe for you adding 18"s is a big step up, but thats only b/c you've got the stock 15" steelies w/ hubs. Gotta take into consideration that SS models come stock with 17"s and SS/SC models come stock with 18"s. Cobalts are big cars, and only look correct with big wheels. After lowering my car, I quickly knew that I would need 18" to complete the look. 19"s would've looked even better, but the price and the tire profile i'd need to run were both not within my taste. The difference between 17"s and 18"s is usually pretty small, and only the severly **** "race only" guys will argue how superior 17"s are to 18"s. For a nice street car that see's occasional track time, 18"s are the way to go. They don't weigh much more, and look alot nicer in my opinion.

agreed...

but the REAL difference is when you go down to 16 and 15 inch wheels

Side wall (on tires) is VERY key.

I have a LT and I wanna get 18's. How big of a problem would it be to put a 45 series tire on instead of the recommended 40 series? Isn't that what SS are running on their 18's anyway?

true. My Cobalt will never see any 15"s or 16"s though, lol. In fact, I plan on my next set of wheels to be 19"s. I haven't checked into them yet, but if the 19" Falken Circuit Specs are available in our bolt pattern, then i'm eventually gonna save up for those. The Enkei WDMs are just to hold me over while I finish my engine and suspension plans.

our cars can fit 20's on them lol no it won't be a problem, i would def go with the 45 less likely to get a bubble. the only thing you gotta do is get your speedo adjusted.
