Don't know how you guys do it with cheap tires, on a sporty car. Kills the fun for me.
I ran one set of generals on my Cobalt and regretted it from day one, only used them based on great tire rack reviews and I was right to think that a tire for $80 would only give me half the performance of my usual $150 tires.
I have bridgestone potenza tires on all 4 of my cars and honestly, spend a little more up front and get a great tire that you can enjoy fore the entire life of it. People think i'm crazy for putting RE760's on my daily driver tercel but if I let them drive it, they understand. It doesn't have any power but it's a blast to throw through corners. Running crap tires just isn't worth it on a car you want to have fun driving.

I know all about falken tires, i've sold them at sears and we actually do have a few in inventory at firestone. They suck.
If you are happy with them, it's because you haven't had better tires.
I've seen them go on cars that came with real performance tires from factory, and even non-aware customers didn't like them.

Right, so now im supposed to take tire advice from a sears service center mechanic who makes 12.50 an hour. I've had plenty of other brands of tires, and there are better tires out there, assuming you want to pay an arm and a leg for them. Sounds like the same ole stereotypical sales pitch at any service center trying to sell you on a $200 dollar a piece tire and telling you your current tires suck.

Not the same model tire, but similar speed ratings. On the balt the difference between 235/40 and 245/40 was noticeable as well. Could be because the Ziex 329 has a slightly softer compound (both W rated) compared to the 912 IMO but the sidewall height was a bit larger. 24.96 vs 24.72. However on all the tires I have used throughout the years, there is a noticeable difference in ride quality for every step smaller you go on the sidewall, anything Ive ever driven on under a 40 sidewall was horrifically harsh on bumpy roads. But I realize that some of you are privileged with much better road conditions compared to what im used to in the north east, there was an unspeakable level of bent rims and blown out low profile tires last winter. lol
Your mechanic you're yelling at has also done way more with his car than most and I'm pretty sure would have tapped the head the right size...

why are you arguing about what is a good tire vs a bad tire ? the thread was about size fitment, that is all.
go to the track/autox thread if you want to know what tires perform the best. Again it is all dependent on what your using the car for.
But again, its about size not brands sooo let get back on track

come have a discussion with me face to face about how shitty my tires are. you act like i brought an argument to this thread, my first post in this thread was about 245/40/18 fitment and how I had no problems with them. Who posted about how the picture i posted was **** knock off tires? You guys all stick together like a little crew on this forum, patting each other on the back.

I wasnt commenting on your choice of tires, just the fact that your reaction to ItalianJoe clearly shows you have no clue who or what your even talking about. every thread I see you post in you keep blasting members whos join date on this website is older than how long you have been driving

I was making fun of the arguments in general.
Cool yourself down
Maybe my problem is the fact that I always feel the need to respond to stupid posts like the one by joe telling me my tires are **** because of his experience at sears auto center? I don't know, maybe it gets a bug up my ass because some of the **** that some people say on here would never be said in person. BTW im not 17.

Falken tires suck..... as well as their parent company sumitomo. Take it from the "clueless" Sears mechanic that actually has a clue or you can take it from me who has years of racing/mechanical/fabrication experience. Im sure I will be clueless too though. There's a reason why you see drift cars running them. That's all their good for is smoke shows and that's about it. You never see them even on cars doing hpde classes.
Back on topic. It really depends on the actual tire, wheel, offset to get them to clear. My 18x9.5 +35mm with 245/45/18 rubbed on large bumps and if I tapped a rumble strip on the track. I'm on Powell springs too. At stock ride heights you won't have issues

falken tires arent "cheap" tires lol I could understand your complaint if I was running walmart brand nexen's like my car came with when I bought it, or some chinese nankang tires, but falken are a high performance japanese tire company, parent company is sumitomo rubber inc. The ziex 912's I still have on the rear wheels I bought on a clearance sale for 93 a piece, but their original retail price in that size even online is upwards of 140 a piece. Not to mention the fact that Im strict about tire ratings above all, the 912's are an AA/A rated tire with a W speed rating and a mfg date of within 6 months of when I bought them, the FP700's (ziex 329) are A/A rated with a W speed rating. Similar compounds to the old falken ziex 512's they used to make. Great tires for all season, which I unfortunately have to have in this weather, im going to be running a set of street radials on malibu 17" steelies.
