245/40/18's

Ok i was looking online and on this site and heres what ive found. I know people on here are running 235/40/18 on stock wheels. The rim width rang is 8-9.5 for the 235/40/18. I was wondering if anybody has ran 245/40/18 on their stock wheels. The rim width range on the 245/40/18 is 8-9.5 also. I know our stock wheels are 7" wide but I know theres a certain width you can go without getting into fitment problems. Anybody have any input on this???

I run 245/45ZR19 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires on our BMW. However, I purchased larger and wider rims.....the rim size is 19x8.5. They fit perfectly. The factory rim size is 18x8 with an offset of like 40mm.

I mounted some 245/45/17 BFGoodrich Traction T/A's onto 7" wide G6 wheeles at work once (was my moms car too ). The 245/40/18's would probably mount up, only problem I see would be the 40 instead of 45 sidewall, but I didn't have too hard of a time getting the 245/45's on so I would expect the 245/40 to work as well.

And this has what to do with the original post?

The point I was trying to make (and I didn't have enough time to explain in detail) is the tire will fit (with a bulging sidewall) but a wider rim would would provide a perfect fit. There are plenty of resources available on the web to determine what the proper fitment is for tires (Tire Rack is a good source).

After spending 10 years in the AF myself as a 47275 I'm surprised to see the smartass post like yours. I appreciate you making sacrifices (and believe me I know the personnal as well as family sacrifices) to defend the freedom of our country but I'm not too sure you can carry on the AF legacy and tradition that has made it the most powerful air force in the world.

It doesnt bother some people , but the sidewall bulge on a 245 tire on a 7" rim would probably be pretty ridiculous . It may work and mount up fine , but I wouldnt go as far to say you get the full benefit as you would likely have issues with cupping on the tread .

man if youre talking a 9.5" rim you can fit pretty beastly tires on there. I had 275s on my camaro that had 9.5" but i doubt we could fit a 275 without rubbing

Ah, I didn't understand it at first glance...kind of hard sometimes to read from the small screen of a Blackberry Pearl. Tire rack is awesome and that's how I pick my tires as well!

I wasn't being a smartass, just trying to understand what you meant, but I get it now.

I appreciate your years of service as well. :

The Air Force legacy is quickly going down the toilet...I've been a tech school instructor for the past 4 years at Sheppard; its the"corporate" Air Force nowdays where being a yes man is the way to go and act first without thinking things through and applying some common sense...People are jumping ship as fast as they are kicking them out, or at least retraining into a career field that hasn't been poluted. I figured when I got here to Virginia, it would be all better, but nope it has spread out into the operational Air Force as well...the really said things it that it's most of the higher ups too, like our Chief! So that makes 2 Chief's now in a row that I've had that are still trying to make that beloved E-10!

I'll go ahead and ignore your comments about me not being able to "carry on the AF Legacy" since you have no basis to make a comment like that in the first place based on a post where I was simply asking what did you mean by it.

i have had 18 8.5 with no problems, a little slower on steering response but not really noticable.

yes 235 is a perfect size for what you want.

Mines lowered on Sportlines but I haven't gotten a definate answer as to weather or not anyone has run 235's on there factory wheels without any rubbing...Any responses there??? I may just stick with 225's as well unless I can get a good answer.

Yeah, I think 245's on the factory wheels will be too wide.

First of all.....my apologies......the way the communication was written it was perceived as being on the negative side and my basis was on the character of a person that would comment in that fashion,

As an instructor you obviously have an impact on those airmen that will carve the future of the AF and build on the legacy of those that have gone before us. I served during the the building phase of the "Corporate AF" where QAF was the way of life. Everything was looked upon as a process and it was very posative. We learned alot from the first Gulf War. However, I was assigned to Little Rock AFB when Clinton was elected president. I could see the writing on the wall. Instead of a career, I decided to take an early out. I was lucky and landed the job of my dreams.

Good luck on making Chief. Do you still WAPS test and meet the board?

That's what I kind of thought you were getting at...no biggie.

I've heard about QAF, and from what I gather, thats whats going on again, with a different name called Smart Ops 21 or Sigma 6...whatever you call it, its still crap. I had to listen to some Major try and blow smoke up our ass for 3 hours on how Toyota is a company that has average people and a brilliant process. They want to throw out the stuff that doesn't work or make sense to streamline things. Sounds great right?!?!?! Well, lets say we reach that Utopia of brilliance, then a new commander comes on in. They have to leave their mark or make an impression to the higher ups and change some stuff...Saying "No sir, we can't change that because this is the best possible way of doing this process" isn't going to work. Hence the process gets messed up again...it just doesn't work in the military, I'm sorry. Changes come from the top, not from some Airman who says why don't we do it this way to save 3.5 percent in Manhours for the week.

I hit 10 years on July 9th wondering if I will see that 20...who knows, might retrain, or even worse get out. The way things are going, they might even be bringing back early retirement at 15 years...regardless, as a TSgt, my options are limited and I need to make a decision soon. Leaning towards the retraining area to where the corporate "funk" hasn't reached yet.

WAPS yes, boards are for only E-8 & E-9, however, they are talking about creating a board for E-7 as well.

Bump.

I also want to know about lowered cars.

I am running 235/40-18 on the stock wheels, and want to lower my car. I know I would be fine with Eibach Pro-Kit springs, but what about the sportline's? I kinda want to go a little lower than the pro-kit.
