So I'm looking at getting in on the MSR wheels group buy but I'm researching tires and I'm like clueless on this.

I understand the tire sizes and I've seen the size calculators.

I currently have base model steel wheels 16x6" I think.

I'd be upgrading to a 17x7.5" wheel so of course I'll need a wider tire.
What range of tire widths should I be looking at for a 7.5" wide wheel?

A 145/xx/17 would be way to small and say a 295/xx/17 would be way to big.

Most important things for me would be tread life, price, and keeping the speedo accurate.

Please help me figure out what size tires to get!

 

let me just make explain a little bit about tire "sizes". which i'm pretty sure is correct.

lets use a 245/40/18 for this example. the 245 is the section width of the tire, not the tread width, so a 245 tire is going to be roughly 9.65" in wdith from sidewall to sidewall, the 45 is how high the sidewall is going to be. so 45% of 245mm is going to be rouhgly 4.33" tall. and then of course the 18 is the wheel size.

sor for a 17x7.5 wheel i'ld reccomend anything inbetween 215/35/17 all the way to 235/40/17

 

When I had my 18"x7.5" Enkeis, I ran a 225/40/18 tire.

On my 19"s, I run a 225/35/19 tire.

 

im thinking about getting the wheels from there too..i like the 45s alot but what size tire shoudl i get for the 18x8 wheel
