High performance wheels.

I've looked all over this forum for anyone finding TRUE competition wheels for their Cobalt SS's. I am talking about light and/or forged wheels. Or information anybody has gotten from requests from manufacturers. I am looking for LIGHT wheels, primarily for drag racing. 16" or 17" would work if they will fit over the Brembos. Actually a 17" wheel would be preferable because there is a better selection of race tires available for them and the wheel/tire assy would be lighter.

I'm sure a lot of us are looking for ways to put slicks or drag radials on our cars. Especially with the Turbo Upgrade coming soon. Together we could search better than individually. What do you think?

17" O.Z. Ultraleggera HLT are like 16.2lbs, but I'm not sure they will fit the SS/TC

(I mention them because they fit the SS/NA & SS/SC)

I'm answering my own thread. This is a great site for HP wheels. Just plug in the size you want and go down through the list of manufacturers

Thanks... I have been looking for more wheel sources...

I went to the site and all I can say is ouch! $$$$.... I am having a hard time justifying $350 OZ's... the wheels I found on the site were anywhere from $700 (on sale) to $1400 a piece....

If you find anyplace else that is cheaper, please let me know!!!

There are many cheaper wheels out there but not in a forged wheel. Weight is a performance killer. One source online equates a pound of wheel weight being equal to FIFTY pounds of vehicle weight. For example, saving ten pounds of wheel weight is equal to five HUNDRED pound of vehicle weight. The wheel is unsprung weight which affects the ride or accuracy of the suspension of a vehicle. It takes less horsepower to make a light wheel spin. That's rotational force. When you consider the consequences of breaking a wheel in a hard turn or turning the center out of the wheel on the drag strip the stronger wheels may pay for themselves. The lighter the racing wheel gets the stronger it has to be. Also, because forged wheels are so expensive to produce most manufacturers don't have a lot of different applications ready to ship. They are made to order which increases the prices even more.

I guess the old idea about "you gotta pay to play" is especially true here. I like to think of the beautiful chrome CAST wheels as CHEST pounders, as in Tarzan, and TWELVE pound race wheels as HEART pounders, as in adrenaline liberators. If you can't justify the cost of forged wheels you probably don't need them.

Centerline makes 15lb 17" wheels, under $300 each, think they need a 1/4" spacer to fit over brembos.

Sorry! I didn't read past the price. These are MOTORCYCLE wheels. Probably a good thing. You only need two.

Well, I'm also looking for a good set of wheels without breaking the bank to go Auto crossing with.

Specifically, 17x7.0 on a 5-110 pattern (obviously) and an offset between +38 through +45

The lighter the better, but cheap may be a factor as well. Gotta be within those specs per SCCA rules.

So, out of curiousity, how much do the stock rims on the SS/TC weigh? I couldn't seem to find this info anywhere...

I'm currently running some 18lb 17s, not too light but better than the stockers. If you can find some raceline magnesium rims anywhere, those are super light but they are discontinued. Centerline makes good wheels but you will need spacers for the ss/tc.
