Stock pirelli P6's Reliable In Winter?

I am concerned with the performance of my stock pirelli's in regard to the snowy season. during the summer they were fine but i noticed in moderate or heavy rain i felt like the tires were kinda slipping. i'd like to know what everyone's feelings on these tires for the winter season is. if i should be buying winter tires and steelies please give me the word and where the best deals are. thanks for the help!!

buy winter tires. no quesiotns asked. your tires are summer only. if you try to drive in the snow of good ole new york you'll run yourself off the road.

Your fine, dont drive like a noob and you will be good. I kept my stock pirelli p-zero's on my SS S/C all winter and did absolutely fine. Mind you, Calgary is notorious for TONS of snow and there was. If you drive slow, dont accelerate fast and take corners, lane changes very precisely you will be fine.

i have some questions.
1. currently have 17"s, should i stick with that size or go 16"?
2. has anyone bought the steelies from tirerack and have any fitment issues?
3. are the steelies sufficient or should i spring for alloys?
4. buy winter tires or just buy good all seasons?

my job requires me to drive to/ from work in the worst winter conditions, so this is a very important issue right now as the weather seems to be turning quickly for winter.

yeah i have been looking for the past 2 weeks into tires and rims. but your lookin at $650+. It really sucks, so I think im just going to deal with it. you can go to 16" on the SS/SC so u will be fine. Im from CT and I can go into work anytime from 6:30-9:30 so ill just wait for the snow to clear. I had the P6's on my last balt and they did OK, wasnt great. but u got it a little better than I will this winter....lol. Drive nicely...

u can get them anywhere. Tirerack is the cheapest $50 town fair and all those other places are like $80. U can also try junkyards.

i got my steelis for about 550 shipped from tirerack (with 50 rebate) dunlop winter sport m3's and so far they're awesome. my summer tires suck when it's cold, even when it's dry. i couldn't imagine trying to drive in the snow with them.

and you'll be fine with 16's.

for the safety of yourself and your fellow motorists....people driving on the stock ss/sc pirellis please ignore this post.

OP: Your 2.4 P6 tires are an all season tire. so you should be ok in mild to average winter conditions. Winter tires would help, but are not a necessity for you.

the 2.0 pirellis are high performance summer ONLY.
Like all summer tires, PZero Rosso tires are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
Driving on them in snow is ignorant, self absorbed, and downright wreckless.

drove all winter on p6's and I live in the country, so the roads dont get plowed and I am ussually first on them in the morning because of work, snow up to 6 inches your fine. for ice, jsut take it easy and use common sense, go slow and leave lots of rooms. I bought winter tires this year, just to be safer.

For the love of all that is holy - do NOT drive in the winter with your stock P-Zero's!! If you crash, dont expect any help from your insurance, as the stock tires are for summer only. The stock tires absolutely suck in the snow and you cannot brake worth a damn with them. They will also spin like mad on any slippery hills or intersections - they are so bad that your ABS system will hardly let you apply the barkes properly because the whells will lock up so easily.

GET WINTER TIRES!!!

better safe than sorry IMO I have a ss/sc and i just ordered all my stuff today. Face it, dropping 650 bucks on this is well worth it. It is such a large safety feature. Put aside all the crap about your car... the tires are what is hitting the road it just seems crazy to me that anybody would settle for less.

Its better to take all necessary precautions because this winter when you take a turn (even driving slowly) and you smack into a curb and ruin your bearing, its gonna cost you more money in repairs and then on top of that you will need to buy your rims and tires.

Plus I got steelies because i don't want the winter roads to kill my stock wheels. Becuase there IS a resale market for our wheels.... just look on ebay.

you have an all season tire.. just be careful---but im a big proponent for all out winter tires.. they make a world of a difference

and regarding ss/sc tires, driving on those tires in the snow is just downright stupid.. and esp by me in NY roads are never... EVER flat, paved, clear of objects, ect i didnt have enuff money to afford winter tires last winter so my car stayed on the driveway when it snowed.. suked to have my parents drive u to work or class in our envoy but it was for my best interest and my cars best interest

I can't believe the money people drop on winter rims.... I got HHR steelies for $150 off e-bay and bought used snow tires for $50. $200 and I'm ready for the snow!

How about P-Zero neros? Now I'm thinking just throw two on the front stock rims for about $285 shipped and call it a day. They look like they do good in snow and I don't need crazy snow tires just something other than summer.

I got the same Dunlops on 17's and had them on last winter.... excellent V rated snow tire(V=149 mph/240 km/h), a little weak on off the line grip, but fantastic once you get going... I raced a 3 series BEEMER last winter at 5 am and we were doing 130 mph (no snow on the highway) at 10-15 degrees outside temp (don't try that on regular snows or the stock Pirelli's)
I've cruised at 80+mph on hard packed snow with the Dunlop M3's
how often are the roads not plowed.... so V-rated snows are the way to go!!!!

don't even attempt driving in the snow on those Pirelli's... go to the TIRE RACK and do some research!!
here is a few tire facts from the Tire Rack:
We all know that tires are a compromise. One tire can't be the fastest on the track, most controllable in the snow, and longest wearing. The Ultra High Performance tire that grips the track with tread temperatures of 200° is incompetent as its tread compound becomes like "hard plastic" at below 32°.
By design, All-Season tires are a compromise intended to provide acceptable traits under a wide variety of conditions. However, that compromised goal prevents them from being a master of any one of them. The All-Season tire tread designs and compounds that are engineered to provide extended mileages and durability under the summer's sun are less effective in winter's freezing temperatures, and through snow and on ice. Specific winter tires deliver much better snow and ice performance than All-Season tires because their tread designs and tread compounds are engineered to master those conditions, while summer tires are engineered to deliver better handling in the rain and on dry roads. Why not have the best tires for each of the conditions you'll encounter?

The stock Pirelli's have a ZERO rating for winter.

ZERO.

So order 4 new Pirelli PZero Nero M+S's like I did (coming in a few days).

They're $133 ea., and you won't have any more worries.

*NOTE: For You Southern Peeps* - my almost new OEM tires will be on sale as soon as the M&S's get put on. See the "classified" section!

There crap. When I got the car rband new we encountred mild slush (talking a dusting) they skidded all over the place. Now imagine how they would be with some treadwear and more than a dusting of slush/snow
