tire shine

Hey everyone I just wanted to let you know to not use tire shine i just had to have my tires replaced on my 82 el camino they were only about a year old maybe a little more. My friend who works at a tire place said that the tire shine rotted out my tires. Just a head up for anyone.

Yea what brand was it? I know if you use regular armorall on them it will do that. I've used turtle wax and black magic wet tire shine products before and neither of them ever did anything to my tires except make them shine of course.

hmmmm call perelli tires and explain to them what happened and ask them if the rubber is "allergic" to the compound chemicals from the tireshine.

I use Turtle wax tire shine, no problems. I always clean in between coats, I kinda thought was an understood thing. Especially if you're the kind of guy to shine his tires, you'd be the kind to wash them first.

The key is using tire shine WITHOUT petroleum distillates. The petroleum eats through rubber and cracks the sidewall of the tire. Most of the time it is cosmetic and will not affect the tire's performance. If you buy the really cheap stuff and constatly use it, it could lead to a pretty bad blowout although it is highly unlikely. Btw, sidewall damage from using chemicals is not covered under any tire manufacture's warranty. Yes, you can tell that tire shine caused the sidewall to crack by just looking at the tire. I will try to get a picture of a tire from work to show you how it will look. I use Permatex Seriously Wet tire shine http://www.permatex.com/products/aut...Tire_Shine.htm. You should be able to get it at any auto parts store.

Yeah, I use the NO TOUCH too, but I have recently switched to Meguires NXT Extreme Shine and never had a problem! On my last two vehicles from either product!

I use Armorall and it seems to work okay. My dad's used the same stuff for his Corvette for years and it never did anything bad to the tires... That sucks for your car tho.

Hmm that makse no sens at all. We put tire shine/sealer on the chevelle so the tires wont rot. It only gets driven about 900 miles a year.

Same tires for 6 years with only about 5K on them now and they still look brand new!
