Got the Cobalt LT w/ Sports Pack.
Window shopping for replacement tires, what size are these?

Is there any one manufacturer that stands out amongs the rest? Looking for performance tires

 

I have 225/45/zr17. tires are a bit wider than stock.

 

how do they fit on the stock rims? i dont want anything bulging out, but i could use a little more traction

edit: when i did a search for tires it lists them like this: "225/70R15" "225/30R20"

im lost

 

And as far as reading the tire sizes the first numbers are how wide the tread is in mm, the second number is the aspect ratio, which determines how tall the sidewall is and the last number is the rim diameter. The R between the aspect ratio and rim size means radial, when finalbreath wrote zr the z was the speed rating. I hope that helps.

Oyea back to your question, if you want a performance tire you get what you pay for most of the time. Goodyear Eagle f1 all season is one i like, but your best bet is to go online or to a tire store with your size and see whats out there in your price range

the lt comes with 16" rims not 17"

The widest you should go on 7" wide wheels (factory), would be 225/45R16. On a 7.5" wheel, you can put on 235/45R16, or 235/50R16. The second being a little too tall.

And on the 225/45ZR17, the Z in the tire size doesn't really tell you the exact speed rating. It is just informing the mechanic, that the tire can only be repaired once, and that that the tire is rated at 168mph or higher. To actually tell the exact speed rating, you need to look at the service description usually off to the right of the size. That will have a 94W, 97Y, or 93(Y). The Load Index (94,etc) being different for each tire. But the speed ratings are for 168, 186, and 186+ respectively. Just so you know.
