ZFR and TIRES LOL!
ZFR and TIRES LOL!
ok so im on a zfr on e85 makin mid 400s
i looking to do the suspension on the car and i want it to handle like its on rails
currently im on stock spring, struts and sway bar,
im picking up a hardcore bar this week
im narrowed the suspension down to two sets just waiting for ride alongs in cars with same setup at ced
koni yellows with powell yyz
OR
bc racing coil overs
now for the issue i need help with what tires to run on the car to give me traction when the zfr kicks in
i currently slapped the biggest tire i could on the front
my setup now is
245 40 18 nitto nt05 on the front
225 40 18 capital all seaon on rear
i kno it looks stupid lol which is why im trying to figure out the best setup
the car is drivin hard on the street
i want to switch to 235-40-18 all the way around but i cant decied which tires these are the two setups im thinking
nitto nt05 front nitto invo rear
or
dunlop dirrezza z2 all the way around
my issue is the nt05 hook pritty good i think since i havent tried another tire
i blow the tires off in 1st gear, it tries to hoook in 2nd and by 3rd im planted to the ground
now i wore the nto5 in 7,000 miles which is fine i dont care just lookin if there is anything better
im worried about the dunlops as if it isnt sticky enough for the zfr
hopefully people can comment that r on the same power level for real experiece cause 300hp is way diff then 450 lol tire wise
im open to other tire suggestions as well
thanks for the help

wow nice numbers, sounds like a fun car.
Well im not where near your hp number but my suspension mods are in my sig, and currently im on 225/40/18 DZ1's .... love the way the car handles.
What will you be using the tires for ? road racing, twist and turns, drag racing or just a highway pull ?

^This.
Its all about what you are trying to do.
450ish hp in a FWD car is likely to spin almost any tire short of something like a drag slick with a big sidewall. In most cornering situations you will have to be easy on the throttle on exit in order to put the power down and ramp into it progressively.
Do you have a G85 option car (limited slip)?
If not then your really going to have issues. One thing is some wheel spin will save your transmission especially at those power levels.
And if you go to the dragon let me know! October sounds about perfect and when I was planning on making the trip once I get my springs and swaybar in.

Nitto NT01 will be a little bit sticker, but is more of a competition tire:
NT01
I've heard good things about these Kumho XS tires as well:

go same size all around for handling performance. Also powell YYZ + koni yellows will outperform almost all coilover by a sizeable margin.

no street tire is going to be sticky enough to get the power to the ground. be easier on the gas out of the hole.nt05r will be your best bet if you want a sticky tire.
unfortunately theres a trade off between sticky and a good street tire. the dunlop is prett sticky when it heats up but you will get pretty decent cold and wet performance too imho and good treadwear where as the nt05r will suck in rain and cold as you already know and the treadwear isnt very good but it will be very sticky.
what it comes down to is your type of driving preference. i stuck with rs3s overs nt01s because the car sees more street time then road racing and if i wanted to have a designated tire theres better options then nittos

I'm at 300whp with 225/45-17 Dunlop Z1 starspecs, hook way better than my shitty all-seasons. Definitely not going to hook like a drag radial or slick but they are one of the better street tires out there.

The only issue with NT01's is they are tread wear 100 tires so wear about twice as fast as NT05's. AND they are about 40 bucks more expensive per tire.
Also, although they are a street legal DOT tire, they won't be anymore once the tread wears off which is pretty quick. (they're designed to turn into slicks and only half their life is gone after the tread wears off)
My advice is get the NT05's for daily driving and maybe a set of NT01's for the track and/or Friday nights ;-)
PS1: NT01R are fine in the front if your "track" is only 1,320 feet long. My "track" is 2.2 miles long with left and right turns ;-)
PS2: Konis' and YYZ's all the way! Coilovers are for show only
since your not doing any serious cornering i would go a little on the cheaper end to start.
The DZll just came out which means you can pick up a set of the DZ1 starspecs for a cheap closeout price, just look around.
I mean depending on road temps and tire temps anything in a FWD can spin when u punch it.
the NT05 seem to be good tires from what ive read, but are not as sticky as the NT01.
soo my $.02 .... pick up a set of DZ1 starspecs and go from threre, they have decent tread wear as well
