No... it's not really black, it just looks black.

You can kind of see the sparklies in this picture, but for some reason it comes out red, in reality it looks more golden brown.

More sparklies.
Without direct light on it, the car still looks black, out in the sunlight you can really see the sparkles. They're called diamond sparkles, so it's primarily a golden sparkle (through the rootbeer color) with hints of red and green.
ExHondaMan 02-23-2006, 12:21 AM Sweet...

mchat 02-23-2006, 09:44 AM Thanks. It does look better in person... maybe I just need someone that knows more than "Point and Click" to photograph it :D
The engine goes back in this Saturday, then it's off to Metal Man's place to have some new custom parts made. I hope to get it back around mid March.
BTW, if you're looking for custom metal work (Exhaust, Headers, Cold Air Intakes, etc...) MetalMan does awesome work. http://www.metalmanfab.com

shcwv 02-23-2006, 12:22 PM how much it cost?
mchat 02-23-2006, 12:46 PM how much it cost?
The paint itself was relatively inexpensive, nothing like the $2k per gallon like the true Chameleon paint.
I had actually sanded it down myself and painted it, which came out ok, but the paint wasn't as dark as what I wanted, even out of direct light you could tell it was brown, and in sunlight it was the color of an A&W rootbeer can. I screwed up the paint when I tried to apply some dark translucent paint over it to darken it up. The paint wrinkled in patches all over the place (I sanded the clear coat too thin).
So I ended up having Performance Dodge in town sand it back down and paint it. This time having the paint shop do spray-outs rather than relying on a stupid little sample on a white sheet of paper (the white background makes it look darker than it is). And the labor cost a bunch, especially when they have to sand it as much as they did because of the wrinkled paint. It ran about $4k for them to fix my mistake and repaint it, and it's a difficult paint to shoot: 3 coats of Black metalic w/ the diamond flake in it, 5 coats of Candy Rootbeer and then 3 coats of Clear.

as a fellow SRT owner, LOOKS GREAT! When you get it back together get some sun shots :) :twothumbs
97cavie24ls 02-23-2006, 02:45 PM the garage lighting is what is killing the color in the pics
looks good so far
mchat 02-23-2006, 05:10 PM Yea, I hope to get it out in the sun and dust it off to take some pics after the engine install this weekend. Hopefully the sun will allow the color to show up in the pictures.
phxSS 02-24-2006, 07:55 PM When are you gonna hit 11's? And your new engine blew already? didn't you just get your new motor last month?
Cobalt_Supercharged 02-24-2006, 08:06 PM Can't wait to see it done.
1stbluSS 02-24-2006, 08:09 PM sweet, i am a cheap ass and I just buy the spray on tint for my paint job. Looks really really sweet and no one ever notices it is spray on..... until it rains and goes away haha
nice ride..... it is starting to look nothing like a neon which IMO is a good thing

Been building my engine since November. Christmas break took a toll, as the machine shop didn't get my engine machined until the end of Jan.
And 11's have been hit since I put the turbo on in July. Best run was an 11.37@127; will be aiming for at least low 10's w/ the new engine. :guns:
