Hi, I have a flywheel that someone stripped one of the bolt holes and I need to put a helicoil, problem is stock bolts are in car right now, and I want to get the holes drilled and retapped asap before I take apart car. I need to know the bolt size for the hole. Basically Threads per inch. If anyone can do this for me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

 

Take the flywheel to the hardware store and thread a bolt in. One helicoil installed on the flywheel could throw off its balance and cause problems down the road. Be careful.

 

i would get a new flywheel, since its balanced. the slighest imbalance will multiply as rpms build.

 

I would also recommend just getting a new flywheel.

 

I'm doing 4, and I know everything about unbalanced. I talked to Fidanza personally and he said is when they repair one they throw on in the other side, but I'm one upping and doing 4. I do drill and taps as a job as a tech on much worse then a piece of aluminum, like 6000# 1000* steam, while it's leaking, so I'm not worried about any of this. He also said that their high performance custom ones all have helicoils in them for strength.

I just need the thread count. Unfortunately finding a bolt like that at a store can cause a problem if by chance I try a metric in a standard hole, it could potentially strip a thread off, even though worse case is I may end up doing it anyway. But, I'm just wondering if any techs out there would know. Thank you.
